Rain and wind are expected to impact a majority of Southern California, including Santa Clarita, as Hurricane Hilary approaches.
As Hurricane Hilary forms southeast of Cabo San Lucas, Santa Clarita and the rest of Southern California are bracing for winds and rainfall generated by the storm, said Mike Wofford, meteorologist with the National Weather Service (NWS)
“The storm is on track to move up the coast into Southern California this weekend for Los Angeles County,” Wofford said. “We could see light rain as early as Saturday night.”
Rain is expected to increase Sunday night into Monday.
“That will be the period of time when we expect to see the heaviest rainfall,” Wofford said.
It is possible to see rainfall rates of one inch per hour, which could result in flooding in certain areas.
Along with the rain, the storm is expected to bring 30 to 40-mile winds with gusts up to 50 mph out of the east, Wofford said.
Temperatures are expected to also drop into the high 70s for Monday, before heating back up to the 90s.
