Red Flag Warning In Effect Through New Year’s Day

A red flag warning is in effect for the Santa Clarita Valley through New Year’s Day, due to Santa Ana winds and low humidity levels.

Beginning in the early hours of Tuesday morning, northeast winds are expected to increase throughout the Santa Clarita Valley bringing high fire danger to the area, said Rich Thompson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

Currently, officials with the NWS are predicting the upcoming system to be a “weak” event with winds 25 to 40 mph, according to Thompson.

Along with the northeast winds, humidity levels are expected to drop below 20 percent, making for dangerous fire conditions.

As of the publication of this article, the red flag warning is expected to last through Wednesday afternoon, according to officials.

Conditions are also expected to be above normal with temperatures in the 70s.

By the weekend temperatures are expected to drop back down into the lower 60s.

There is no “significant” rain expected over the next several weeks, according to Thompson.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
