Santa Clarita Expected To See Milder Weather After Tuesday Night’s Thunderstorm

National Weather Service (NWS) officials confirmed Wednesday Santa Clarita residents can anticipate scattered clouds and temperatures in the upper-50s to low-60s through early next week.

While scattered showers are forecast throughout Wednesday and into Thursday, the thunder and lightning seen and heard Tuesday night across Santa Clarita is believed to have passed, according to NWS officials.

“The main event has passed over. It’s pretty much east of LA County at this point,” said NWS Meteorologist Kristen Stewart.

Tuesday night’s thunder and lightning was an uncommon event for Santa Clarita, and a result of a particularly unstable atmosphere, according to Stewart.

“When warm air rises, it creates those thunder clouds,” said Stewart. “Which is pretty common in the middle of the country, but not out here because our ocean water is so cold, it doesn’t often create the conditions necessary for those types of clouds,” said Stewart.

The NWS forecast scattered clouds into the weekend with the potential for another round of rain Sunday.

“While not as big as this last one was, there is a chance of rain on Sunday, but our models aren’t consistent at this point,” said Stewart.
