Santa Clarita Valley Sees Significant Rainfall (VIDEO)

The latest storm brought a significant amount of rain to the Santa Clarita Valley and snow to the mountains, with the National Weather Service reporting some impressive totals.

Just within the Santa Clarita Valley almost every area received more than 0.75 inches of rain Thursday.

Here are the rainfall totals recorded in inches for different locations in the Santa Clarita Valley:

  • Newhall: 1.46 inches
  • Del Valle: 1.21 inches
  • Castaic Junction: 0.90 inches
  • Saugus: 0.79 inches
  • Castaic: 0.73 inches
  • Acton: 0.94 inches

Newhall saw the highest recorded rainfall at 1.46 inches, while Castaic received the least at 0.73 inches.

The National Weather Service in Los Angeles tweeted on Friday morning, “Expect wet slippery roads for the morning and afternoon commutes today,” asking everyone driving to take their time out there.

The storm brought much-needed rain, benefiting local water supplies and helping to alleviate dry conditions, according to the National Integrated Drought Information System.

Local mountains also received snow with the last storm.

While snow fell throughout the Grapevine, the California Highway Patrol did not have to close the 5 Freeway.

Dry and warmer weather is expected over the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Meteorologists say temperatures are set to drop early next week with a chance of showers between Monday and Tuesday.
