Beauty Brand Neora Explains Its Mission To ‘Make People Better’

In an era where the beauty and wellness industry is saturated with brands, Neora emerges as a beacon of innovation. Call it beauty with a mission. A global enterprise specializing in skin care, hair care, and wellness products, Neora made a remarkable impact since its inception more than a decade ago. One of the driving forces behind Neora’s success is Amber Olson Rourke, its astute and passionate co-founder.

With a background in the medical spa industry, Olson Rourke brings invaluable insights and a keen sense of market needs. At the heart of Neora’s journey is a simple yet powerful mission statement: “Make People Better.” This reflects Neora’s unwavering commitment to enhancing lives through superior, clean, and performance-driven products, as well as through an empowering business model.

“Our mission statement is very simple, but it really dictates everything that we do, which is ‘Make People Better,’” says Olson Rourke. “So anything that we do, whether it’s for our products, for our employees, for our independent brand partners, we want to help make them the best version of themselves. That has been our mission statement from before we founded the company.”

The Neora Origin Story

Neora was born out of a desire to address unmet needs in the beauty and wellness space. Olson Rourke recognized the yearning for simplicity, efficacy, and cleaner ingredients in products. This understanding, combined with a fervent desire to improve lives, culminated in the founding of Neora.

“It was a bootstrap-type launch,” Olson Rourke shares. “We didn’t take any outside funding. We had five employees when we started. We  developed the products, put together the story, and had a small team. We just really leaned into our products and what would create word of mouth is that people would be refreshed and wowed by the fact that these products actually did what we said that they were going to do — especially in skin care, there’s a lot of marketing flap and empty promises in bottles.

“We just put everything into the formulas and making them the best they could be and investing in making them really great products. And that kind of started it. We started with just the night cream only. We just had one product and then it’s grown from there.”

Addressing a Market Gap With Clean, Performance-Driven Products

Olson Rourke’s experience in the medical spa industry was pivotal in the founding of Neora. Through thousands of interactions with clients, she gleaned the urgent need for products that were simple yet effective, multifunctional, and composed of clean ingredients. Traditional products were either laden with questionable components or lacked the efficacy sought by discerning consumers. It was this void that Neora sought to fill.

Neora’s products are meticulously formulated to blend the purity of clean ingredients with the robust performance users crave. “When we talk about our products, how I describe them is clean meets performance,” says Olson Rourke. Neora’s offerings exemplify how cutting-edge science and nature can harmoniously coexist. This unique fusion ensures that customers not only feel good about what they are using, but also see real results.

Neora strives to be an innovator and a trendsetter. The company’s commitment to innovation has led to groundbreaking developments that put Neora ahead of the curve.

One such case is the use of a plant-based alternative to retinol- bidens pilosa. While retinol is prized for its anti-aging properties, it’s also known for its harsh side effects. Neora’s alternative, based on botanical extracts, offers the benefits of retinol without the drawbacks. This alternative was incorporated into Neora’s products years before the rest of the industry caught up.

“Retinol is known as a go-to for anti-aging, but the downside of it is a lot of people’s skin can’t tolerate [it],” Olson Rourke explains. “It actually can thin your skin, create irritation, and make your skin more photosensitive, increasing the likelihood of future damage, but it gives you results.

“So we found a plant-based alternative that clinically was shown to give the same results as retinol without all the harsh side effects.”

Furthermore, Neora was ahead of the trend in recognizing the importance of scalp care for hair health and the use of adaptogens for balancing the circadian rhythm. According to UCLA Health, adaptogens are “herbs, roots, and other plant substances (like mushrooms) that help our bodies manage stress and restore balance after a stressful situation.” By staying ahead of trends and continuously innovating, Neora ensures that its products are not just keeping pace, but leading the way in the beauty and wellness sector. This disruptive spirit is what positions Neora as a trailblazer, steadfast in its mission to make people better through exceptional products.

Revolutionizing the Direct Sales Model

Beyond its product offerings, Neora’s business model is a radical departure from the traditional direct sales paradigm. Historically, direct sales have had several pitfalls, including brand partners being saddled with inventory they can’t sell and high overhead costs.

Neora’s approach reimagines this model. At its heart, Neora is an e-commerce setup. Brand partners aren’t burdened with carrying inventory. Instead, they’re provided with personalized websites and tools, including a mobile app for seamless operations. This framework empowers partners to earn commissions through referrals, essentially rewarding them for promoting products they believe in.

What’s more, Neora’s model mitigates risk for brand partners. “A brand partner gets started for $20,” says Olson Rourke. “We set up their personalized website, tools, tracking, mobile app, everything. And they simply have a referral website, just like any influencer would.

“Anytime they refer a sale, they get paid and there’s none of the ‘gotchas’ of fees, hitting quotas, all of those things. It’s really simplistic in that if you sell something, you earn a commission.”

Additionally, by referring three people, they can earn products for personal use for free. This model, built on simplicity and empowerment, ensures that the brand partners are set up for success. In this case, Neora is not only embodying their mission to “Make People Better,” they’re making business better, too.

Neora’s Lasting Impact and Contributions

Neora’s relentless dedication to its mission has manifested in transformative changes in the lives of countless individuals. It’s evident that the company’s foundation is rooted in a deep-seated commitment to making lives better.

From Amber Olson Rourke’s visionary leadership and understanding of the market, to Neora’s groundbreaking products that combine clean ingredients with performance, to a revolutionary direct sales model, Neora stands as a pioneer in the beauty and wellness industry.

More than just a company, Neora is a movement that empowers individuals to become the best versions of themselves. Its continued innovation and unwavering dedication to its core mission position Neora as a force of positive change for years to come.
