Dodgers A Potential Landing Spot For Former Cy Young Winner

With the offseason underway, rumors are swirling about potential landing spots for star pitcher Corbin Burnes.

The Baltimore Orioles’ ace has been a cornerstone of their pitching staff. He is known for his dominant fastball, elite command, and recent Cy Young award.

However, as Burnes nears free agency and the Baltimore Orioles potentially look to make significant roster changes, there’s a lot of buzz around where he might land if the Orioles decide to part ways with him.

At the top of the list of suitors? The Los Angeles Dodgers, who are reportedly very interested.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have solidified their status as World Series champions, living up to their billing as the season-long favorite.

After the most ambitious and expensive offseason in MLB history, the Dodgers assembled one of the most formidable rosters ever seen, and they marched through the season to claim the title.

Now, with their sights set on an encore performance, their past success and ambition instill confidence in their potential trade decisions.

In his offseason predictions, Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter anticipates that the Dodgers will make another splash, projecting that they’ll pursue Corbin Burnes, the top pitcher available.

This acquisition would reinforce the Dodgers as the team to beat in 2025 and bolster their campaign to repeat as champions.

While the Dodgers’ championship run was impressive, pitching depth emerged as a potential weak spot. With key pitchers like Tyler Glasnow, Gavin Stone, Clayton Kershaw, and others sidelined due to injuries, the team relied heavily on contributions from Jack Flaherty, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Walker Buehler, and a well-used bullpen to bridge the gap.

This situation highlighted the need for a reliable, durable starting pitcher like Burnes.

In 2025, they’ll hope for a healthier rotation, especially with Shohei Ohtani returning to pitching duties.

However, after the struggles of 2024, they may be looking for an additional ace like Burnes to bring more stability and innings to the staff.

Burnes’ resume speaks for itself: he’s logged at least 28 starts in each of the past four seasons, with a career 3.19 ERA, four All-Star selections, and a Cy Young Award.

His durability and consistency would provide the Dodgers with the reinforcement they need to withstand potential late-season injuries.

His addition could significantly bolster the Dodgers’ pitching staff, potentially transforming them into an even more formidable force in the league.

Although signing Burnes would once again mean a significant financial commitment, his addition could be the catalyst for a championship repeat for the Dodgers this offseason, igniting excitement among fans and analysts alike.

While Corbin Burnes has numerous potential landing spots, the Dodgers remain a particularly intriguing option. Their need for a front-end starter, combined with their willingness to make big moves, could make Burnes’ path to LA a reality.

However, the New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, and the Detroit Tigers also have compelling reasons to pursue Burnes, and each team’s potential strategy in acquiring him is worth considering.

If the Orioles decide to deal with their ace, they’ll have no shortage of suitors, and Burnes’ potential destination could significantly shift the balance of power in the MLB, a testament to the impact of this potential trade.
