Dodgers Sweep Series With A Grand Slam In A Comeback Win Against The Phillies

The Los Angeles Dodgers swept the series against the Philadelphia Phillies with a dramatic 9th inning grand slam by Max Muncy.

After strong performances against the Phillies on Monday and Tuesday night, the Dodgers looked to close out the series on Wednesday afternoon with Gavin Stone making his MLB debut starting as pitcher for the Dodgers and Aaron Nola for the Phillies.

In the top of the 1st inning, Phillies Bryson Stott got a hit and secured an RBI from a run scored by Trea Turner, starting the lead 1-0.

In the top of the 3rd inning, the Phillies kept the ball rolling with an eventful inning with four runs being scored by Bryce Harper, Nick Castellanos, Alec Bohm, and Brandon Marsh with hits from Castellanos, Bohm, Edmundo Sosa and Garrett Stubbs, extending the lead 5-0.

After a tough first half of the 3rd inning, the Dodgers quickly responded with a run scored by David Peralta from a single hit by Mookie Betts, trailing the Phillies 5-1.

In the bottom of the 4th inning, the Dodgers started to build the momentum with a home run hit from Miguel Vargas with James Outman scoring a run, still trailing 5-3.

Late in the bottom of the 7th, Freddie Freeman hit a sacrifice fly for Chris Taylor to score a run, closing the gap with the score 5-4

In the bottom of the 8th, Austin Barnes hit a go-ahead single bringing in Outman and Vargas, giving the Dodgers a 6-5 lead.

In the top of the 9th inning, the Phillies responded quickly with a hit from Stott for Castellanos to score a run, leveling the game 6-6.

In the bottom of the 9th inning, with bases loaded Max Muncy on the first pitch hit a grand slam and secured the win for the Dodgers with a final score 10-6.

What Is Next For The Dodgers

The Dodgers will be on the road heading to San Diego to face the Padres on Friday evening. Clayton Kershaw will be the starting pitcher for the Dodgers and Joe Musgrove will be on the mound for the Padres.

The Padres are coming off a series win against the Cincinnati Reds.

The Dodgers will be entering the series on top of the NL West after winning two straight series.

The Padres will be entering the series 3rd in the NL West after having a slow start in which this series can possibly switch the momentum for both organizations.

Listen to the Dodgers face the San Diego Padres Friday evening with the first pitch scheduled for 6:40 PM on Santa Clarita’s home of the Dodgers, KHTS FM 98.1 & AM 1220.
