“This is different than becoming a bail agent or permittee,” said Inessa Chavez, vice president of All American Bail Bonds in Santa Clarita. “A bail solicitor does not have as much freedom and rights as a bail agent or permittee.”

Bail solicitors must be 18 years old or older and go through a similar type of training as a bail agent or permittee — 20 hours of approved classroom study about the duties and responsibilities of a bail licensee and 6 hours of approved continued annual education, according to the textbook.

The fees to become a bail solicitor are significantly less than if someone would like to become a bail agent or bail permittee.

It costs about $1200 to become a bail solicitor or bail agent with an annual fee of nearly $200.

To become a bail permittee costs about $1800 and renewal costs about $716.

A corporation may not employ a bail solicitor or permittee.
