“What do I do now? Where do I go? Who should I talk to?” may be questions that are going through your mind.

“The first step is to call a bail bonds company,” said Inessa Chavez, vice president of All American Bail Bonds in Santa Clarita. “They will set you up with a bail agent who knows how to take you through the process.”

Santa Clarita Bail Bonds: How Payment Plans WorkThe bail bonds agent will find out what your loved one’s bail is set at.  Then, you pay the bail bondsman 10 percent of the bail amount and collateral could possibly required.

A bail bonds agent will then go to the jail, such as the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, where your loved one is being held.

“We will go to the jail and bail out your loved one,” Chavez said. “Then they are released from jail pending the outcome of their case.”

Bail bonds agents will guide you through the process, Chavez said.

“Bail bonds businesses, like All American Bail Bonds in Santa Clarita, are always open,” Chavez said. “24 hours a day, seven days a week. Any bail bonds business will be available to help your family.”

Some tips on what to ask when you meet with a bail agent:

  • What happens now?
  • How long will it take to get my loved one out?
  • How much will this cost?
  • Are payment plans available?
  • What kind of collateral can I offer? What kind of collateral do you take?
  • Is my loved one able to be bailed out?
  • What happens after they are bailed out?
  • What should we do in the meantime?

“Always make sure that the bail bonds business and bail agent that you are working with are properly licensed,” Chavez said, adding that all of the agents at All American Bail Bonds in Santa Clarita have all gone through the proper licensing process. “You want to work with a company who is professional and are also empathetic to the situation that you’re in.”
