The event will be held on Jan. 18 from 11:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the SCV Senior Center located at 22900 Market St. in Newhall.
The cost to attend the event is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12 years of age.
Attendants can indulge their sweet tooth by tasting mexican hot chocolate brownies, chocolate mole, bacon chocolate cookies and many more dishes. Drinks will also available for a nominal donation.
A contest, judged by members of the SCV Foodie group, will also take place where residents participating in the competition will have the opportunity to be creative and showcase their chocolate cooking skills in hopes of winning the Trophy. Anything goes, except for alcoholic beverages and as long as it’s chocolate.
“I’m looking for something unique. If you’re going to make brownies or you’re going to make a chocolate cake, boy it better be just the best chocolate cake I’ve ever had. But then again this is where creativity comes in, I want to be wowed” said Larry McClements a member of the SCV Foodies group who will be one of the Judges.
The donations are set to benefit the Unitarian Universalists Church of Santa Clarita. Residents are welcome to attend a 10:30 a.m. service before the event.
“The Unitarian faith believes in studying the world’s religions and not really being set with one dogma” said Eve Bushman, former board member of the church.
About SCV Foodies
According to the SCV Foodie website the definition of a foodie is “being a foodie is about taking time to appreciate what you’re eating, and probably more importantly who you’re eating it with. Being a foodie is appreciating that someone has taken time to prepare the meal which you’re about to eat, and often times has done it not because it’s a job, but because it is a passion. Being a foodie is about shared experiences with a meal, both good and bad. Most importantly, being a foodie is about being inspired by what you eat; so much so that you you simply have to share it with someone else in the hopes that they are inspired too.”
