Stand Up Guys: A Family Comedy Night
When: May 18th – 8-10pm

Details: “Standup Guys: A Family Comedy Show” benefits Veterans in the SCV Habitat for Heroes Program.  This belly laugh event will feature comedians Robert G. American Legion Post – The Renovation Starts!
When: Saturday, May 19 at 9am

American Legion Post 507, 24527 Spruce Street, Newhall, CA  91321 (Spruce & 11st Street)
Details: After raising funds at the “Stand Up Guys: A Family Comedy Night”, SCV Habitat For Heroes will start the renovation of American Legion Post 507 in Newhall the following morning.  If you would like to help, just put on your painting clothes and work shoes and come on down.  No experience is needed, just a willing attitude.  The project to renovate the historic building will include new drywall, flooring and bathrooms.  A new pool and poker tables will be installed.  Fast Frame Valencia has designed a wall featuring framed photos of currently serving SCV Servicemen and women and a special area for the SCV’s fallen.  This renovation is our opportunity to give back to the veterans of the Santa Clarita Valley.  Many of our active duty military will come home from tours of duty and enjoy a newly improved post.  The American Legion is involved in many worthy projects that include: scholarships, aid and assistance to our local needy veterans and other community programs and projects.  Click here to learn more about the American Legion.  Click here to learn more about SCV Habitat For Heroes.

American Builders Supply “Open House”

American Builders Supply, 21400 Golden Triangle Road, Saugus – next to Mountasia
Details:
American Builders Supply is holding an Open House to celebrate their 44 years in business.  Bring the family for fun and free barbeque.  Take part in free workshops and learn how to:  add color and finishes to concrete, stabilize decomposed granite for paths and walkways, and prepare and use cement-all and mortar mix.  A free raffle will be held at the end of each seminar.  There are other free offers:  t-shirts, door prizes and raffles.  Clearance items will be 30-70% off.  Come by and say hello to KHTS’ Carl Goldman who will be manning the KHTS antique 1948 Mack Fire Truck.

Details:   This event has been cancelled.
The gourmet food trucks and classic cars are back at the Valencia Auto Center Creekside Classic.  The street is blocked off so you can stroll along, stopping at a wide variety of food truck offerings while enjoying the classic cars.  This is a fun event for everyone in the family.

Relay For Life

Lace up your walking shoes to help fight against cancer at the American Cancer Society’s annual Santa Clarita Valley Relay For Life 2012.  Form a team, join a team or come to cheer on walkers in the 24-hour Relay.  The Luminaria Ceremony is the highlight of Relay For Life – with a slideshow of photos of our loved ones affected by cancer and luminaria bags dedicated to loved ones lost – while participants walk the track by the light of the luminaria bags.  Click here to read more and to sign up.

Drive Safe Golf Classic

It’s time to tee off for a great day of golf at the 39th Annual Frontier Toyota/Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital “Drive Safe” Golf Classic.  The day helps support trauma and emergency services at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.  The day includes golf, awards ceremony, dinner and auctions.  Auction items include vacation packages, jewelry, Valencia Country Club membership and more.  Contact the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Health Foundation for information on entry fees and sponsorship at 661-200-1201.

What: Golden Valley High School Band “Spring Concert”

Details: Get ready to be thrilled at the Golden Valley High School Band’s annual “Spring Concert”.  The band will perform at Golden Valley High School.  Tickets may be purchased from band members or at the door.

What: Strawberry Festival
When: Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20 from 10am to 6:30pm

Strawberry Meadows of College Park, 3250 South Rose Avenue, Oxnard
Details:
Red, luscious strawberries will be in abundance at the California Strawberry Festival.  Food booths will be offering strawberry pizza, nachos, kabobs, beer and wine.  Then indulge in the strawberry desserts: shortcake, ice creams, funnel cake, flan, chocolate-dipped berries and cotton candy.  As the Festival folks say, “Affordable family fun never tasted so sweet.”  Kids will love the rides in Strawberryland.  There will be exhibits and presentations as part of Strawberry Promenade.  There are also strawberry contests to bring on belly laughs.  A wide variety of live entertainment will be performing.  There will be 250 booths in the Arts and Craft section.  Avoid traffic headaches by using the Festival shuttle.  Click here for traffic info, shuttle, entertainment line-up, directions, FAQs and more.  KHTS is selling half-price tickets for the Strawberry Festival.  The ticket value is $12 and KHTS is selling them for $6.  Call KHTS at 661-298-1220 for more information.

What: Rock The Rhythm: Beat The Odds
When: Friday, May 18 at 11am (gates open at 10am)

College of the Canyons, Cougar Stadium, 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Valencia
Details: Join in to try setting a Guinness World Record for the largest drum circle.  In addition to providing drums, Remo Incorporated has made 11,000 sound shapes required to break the current drum circle record of 10,180.  Instruments will be handed out on a first-come, first-serve basis.  This attempt is open to the public.  Many local elementary schools will be participating.  This event is free and open to the public.  There are a limited number of reserved seating in the stadium stands, and tickets are $20.  Click here to read a story on Skyblue Mesa’s participation. What: Leukemia & Lymphoma – Trivia Night

Details: Sarah Rock is hosting a trivia night to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  Doors open at 6 p.m. and the competition, which will be run by Brad Rennels of Brain Twisters Trivia, will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 and include snacks, dessert and all games. What: Providence Blood Donor Drive

Where: Providence Holy Cross Health Center at Valencia Boulevard and McBean Parkway
Details: Blood donations save lives every day.  Providence operates its own blood collection program to serve its five Southern California medical centers.  To sweeten the deal, in exchange for a pint of blood, each donor will receive a coupon for a pint of ice cream.  To schedule an appointment, visit: pscvmp.givesblood.org or call 818-847-4422.  Providence will be holding a regular schedule of drives on the third Saturday of each month.

What: Summer Meltdown

What: Chick-Fil-A Moss Family Fundraiser
When: Friday, May 18 from 6-9pm
Where: Chick-Fil-A, 24180 Magic Mountain Parkway
Details: Chick-Fil-A is holding a fundraiser event for a local family, the Moss Family.  There will be live music, carnival games, a raffle and more.  The Moss’ son, Blake was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at four and one half months.    Over time, doctors determined Blake was the seventh person in the world with DEND syndrome, an extremely rare genetic disorder characterized by developmental delay, epilepsy and diabetes.  As can be expected the family has exorbitant medical expenses.  Chick-Fil-A is donating a portion of all sales during this event.  The first $5,000 raised will be matched by a Moss family friend.

What: Tea Fundraiser for Angel House

Details: Ladies, come to a Tea to benefit Angel House.  Give children who have no chance to live in a safe and loving environment a chance to be clothed, fed, and educated. What: SENSES – Toga! Toga!

SENSES transforms Main Street in Old Town Newhall into the ultimate big block party.  It is designed to heighten your sense of sight, smell, touch, taste and sound with live music and entertainment, art, food trucks, themed drinks, beer, wine and more.  Each month there will be a different theme to the evening and a constantly changing musical lineup.  This month’s theme is “Toga! Toga!”.  The event is open to all ages and is free.
