West Ranch Baseball Team Faces Edison In CIF Playoffs

Three baseball teams from the Foothill League entered the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs. Only one survived.

West Ranch advanced to the second round with a 6-2 win over El Dorado on Friday. Jake Bernards and Cody Howard each had RBI doubles in a five-run first inning. The West Ranch baseball team will face Edison today. The game is at West Ranch. It starts at 3:15.

In other baseball playoff games, Valencia lost an extra-inning affair against visiting Vista Murrieta, 10-9. Saugus lost to Mater Dei, 6-2.

In high school softball, Valencia and Hart are on the road today for their second round CIF Southern Section Division I playoff games. Valencia is at Poly Riverside. Hart is at Moorpark.

In high school volleyball, Valencia was ousted from the CIF Southern Section Division II playoffs. The reigning national champions lost a thrilling five-game match to Royal on Friday night.

In high school track and field, the Saugus girls team finished second in the CIF-Southern Section Division II finals. Rio Mesa won the Division II championship with 62 points. Saugus, led by Kaylin Mahoney and the 3,200 relay team, followed with 51.

In auto racing, Daniel Herrington, driving for Valencia’s Bryan Herta and his Bryan Herta Autosport, was seventh in the Firestone Freedom 100 Indy Lights race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Friday.

Rich DeLong III, a driver from Santa Clarita, was second in the NASCAR Super Stocks race at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale on Saturday night.
