Top 16 Teachers In L.A. County Includes Hart District Member

The Los Angeles County Office of Education has recognized Casey Cuny, the Teacher of the Year for the William S. Hart Union High School District, as one of the top 16 educators in the county.

As of right now, he has an official nomination for California Teacher of the Year, according to William S. Hart Union High School District Communications Coordinator Debbie Dunn

“I am honored to represent the amazing teachers of the Hart District with this award,” said Cuny. “I would not be the teacher I am without their influence, generosity, professionalism, and support. Thank you to everyone from Valencia, Canyon and all over the district who I’ve had the great fortune to collaborate with over the years.”

With this achievement, the Hart District has had a County Teacher of the Year for four consecutive years.

As a model English teacher, Cuny has made a positive influence on every department at Valencia High School and beyond.

“We are so proud to have Casey Cuny represent the amazing teachers in the Hart District as one of the 16 County of Los Angeles Teachers of the Year! Casey possesses the unique ability to connect with students on a personal level and encourage them to delve deeply into important topics relevant to their lives and their futures,” said Hart District Superintendent Mike Kuhlman. “His dedication to building strong relationships and his enthusiasm for creating a stimulating learning environment are truly commendable.”

As a professional educator, Cuny participates in a variety of learning and professional development activities and recognizes the value of implementing research-based methods along with school-wide data analysis.

The most significant thing about Cuny is that he genuinely cares about his students and the entire learning process, according to district officials.

“The teachers of our district are the best in the country, and almost anything I have done in the classroom, I have borrowed or stolen from a fellow teacher,” said Cuny. “I am so grateful I came to the Hart District and have worked with so many incredible educators”

On Friday, Cuny was one of 68 teachers honored at the 42nd Annual Los Angeles County Teachers of the Year luncheon in Universal City.

Cuny was among the top 16 teachers out of 68, according to Dunn.

There is set to be five co-winners who will be state teachers of the year, with one representing California in the national competition.
