Running back Tony Testa had a dominant night, scoring two receiving touchdowns and another on the ground.

“Tony Testa is a special player on our team that can do anything,” said Valencia Head Coach Larry Muir. “He can play receiver, linebacker, running back and quarterback. He does it all.”

Castaic, who has been having a historic season, took a tough 48-14 loss Friday night by the Valencia Vikings.

“We didn’t play well enough to win the game, not even close,” said Castaic Head Coach Sirr Shakir. “They were a better team than us, they outplayed us, honestly Larry (Valencia head coach) out-coached me. I have to get better. It starts with me.”

The Coyotes kept things close during the first quarter by holding Valencia to only one touchdown.

During the second quarter, things took a turn for the worse.

After multiple fumbles and a few blown coverages by Castaic, they found themselves down 35-7 at halftime.

The second half of play would not be much better for the Coyotes as they were unable to tame the Vikings and allowed two more touchdowns before the end of the game.

“We don’t have time to feel sorry for ourselves; we have to get ready to play ball,” said Coach Shakir.

Castaic is set to host Canyon Thursday, Sept. 28 at Valencia High School with kickoff at 7 p.m.

Canyon (4-1, 0-1):

9/1/23 Canyon Football

This past week, Canyon was on a bye week with the last time they took the field they suffered their first loss of the season to West Ranch, 30-14.

“There’s a lot of things we have to be able to clean up from this and we will, we’ll get after it and come back out ready to play the next game,”  said Canyon Head Coach Ken Holsenbeck, after their loss.

Canyon looks to get back on track Thursday, Sept. 28 at Valencia High School.

Golden Valley (2-4, 0-2):

9/8/23 Golden Valley Football

The Grizzlies endured a brutal 42-9 loss at the hands of the Hart Indians on Friday.

While Golden Valley’s Isaiah Orozco leads the league with 791 rushing yards, they still find themselves on a three-game losing streak.

The Grizzlies look to break their losing streak Friday, Sept. 29 when they host Valencia at 7 p.m. from Canyon High School.

Saugus (0-6, 0-2):

8/18/23 football

Saugus quarterback Trent Johnson prepares to receive a snap.

Since the start of the season, the Centurions have not been able to muster any success and that continued on Thursday when they lost 28-0 to West Ranch.

During this matchup, freshman receiver Jayden Lepley took a powerful hit to his upper body while also being tackled by his legs from behind.

Lepley quickly hit the ground and reported a tingling feeling going all throughout his body.

He was transported to a local hospital where he underwent further evaluation.

With five minutes left in the game, officials called it off with the final score of 28-0.

Saugus head coach said that Lepley has been cleared and is set to return to the field.

The Centurions will be on a bye week and will resume play Friday, Oct. 6 against Hart at the College of the Canyons.

Trinity Classical Academy (2-3, 0-0):

After a strong start to the season, the Knights now find themselves on a three-game losing streak, with their most recent loss coming from Santa Paula, 44-14.

During that matchup, the Knights had all 44 points scored on them in the first half.

Trinity looks to regroup as they prepare for league play Thursday, Sept. 28 at home with a start time of 7:30 p.m.

Santa Clarita Christian (4-1, 1-0):

The Cardinals move to 4-1 after coming off a huge 44-6 win over the Coast Union Broncos Saturday night.

Junior quarterback Cayden Rappleye had a stellar night throwing for 123 passing yards and a pair of passing touchdowns.

Aiding him was Junior receiver Eli Duhm who had two receiving touchdowns and 68 receiving yards.

To go with that Rappleye had over 100 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown.

The Cardinals look to repeat their success Saturday Oct. 7 in a non-league game against Flintridge Prep in La Canada.
