6 Simple Ways To Reduce Moisture In Basements

Moisture is created in any home by cooking, washing, bathing etc. Moisture can also enter your home from the soil through the basement. Speaking of basements, moisture can also enter your basement in the form of heavy rains, ground water or even a foot a water, which can cause some major damage in your basement and it can be expensive to repair those damages. So you should try to reduce moisture in your basement before it damages anything.

You should do some research online on how to find out if there’s moisture in your basement. Websites like husblog.dk will help you by providing you with a perfect guide.

After that, here are some of the ways you can reduce moisture in your basements:

1. Find the source of the moisture
This is one of the basic and most important thing to do before you can reduce moisture in your basement. You need to check and find the source, that where is moisture coming from. You should tape aluminum foil for your basement walls and check whether the moisture is on the outside surface of the tape or behind the tape. If the moisture is on outside, it means that there is high humidity in your basement and if there’s moisture behind the tape, that means there is water leaking in your walls and ruining the foundation.

2. Make sure water doesn’t reach the foundation
If the moisture in your basement is coming from the outside walls due to heavy rains and large amounts of snow melts and the water coming from those things isn’t being kept away from the foundation of your basement. You could create a wide enough slope that drops the water far enough from the foundation to ensure that water doesn’t reach the foundation.

3. Build gutters
Gutters are used in every home to ensure that the waste water or the dirty water is being directed away from the house. Likewise, build gutters in your basement, so the water doesn’t stay in your basement and drains away in gutters, avoiding the damages caused by the water.

4. Fix/repaint holes and cracks
People maintain their homes every once in a while to make sure that they don’t have to repair some major damages. Same is the case with fixing holes and cracks in your foundation. You fix them to make sure that later on, you don’t have to repair some major basement damages.

5. Waterproof the basement’s walls
In order to reduce moisture, you can waterproof the walls of your basement. Normally, paints come with waterproof materials. You just have to paint your basement walls to make sure that there no pores in your concrete left open.

6. Insulate pipes
Every other basement has pipes attached to the walls. Sometimes, water is dripping from these pipes which can create moisture in the walls. To reduce the moisture created by these pipes, you should insulate these pipes with foam which are cheap and easy to apply.
