Common Types Of Back And Spine Pain

Back and spine pain occurs much more frequently and more prevalently than many think. Hence, just as many tend to ignore these bodily discomforts, only to have them treated when the pain becomes chronic and close to unbearable.

Below are common types of back and spine pain.

1. Lumbar Muscle Strain

Repeated and/or overuse of muscles will eventually lead to their muscle fibres therein becoming stretched. Or worse, torn. The same can be said of ligaments and tendons being stripped from where they are attached.

2. Muscle Tension

Muscle tension frequently referred to as muscle rigidity, is medically described as muscles being unable to relax and loosen as they should, normally. One of the most common reasons behind this condition is stress.

When stressed, your nervous system will automatically react by sending signals to your muscles to be on “alert” or on “protect mode” (adrenaline release). This short burst of energy may seem helpful at the onset. Yet the repercussion is that your muscles will receive the brunt of it afterwards.

Always put to mind that muscle tension should not be a normal part of your daily routine. Your muscles can operate at their optimum when they are relaxed. If you work in a high-stress environment, it will be best to seek professional aid regarding treating stress-related muscle rigidity. This is because it may be near impossible for such muscle conditions to fade away on their own.

3. Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is defined as a tenderness felt along the vertebrae and the regions surrounding it. Often, it is not limited to back pain. It may also radiate along the neck, nape, and regions around the clavicle. In parallel, your arms and legs may experience shooting pains and numbness.

Cartilages are found in joints and they act as a sort of cushion on bone ends. They deteriorate on a gradual basis because of the friction they constantly go through. This cartilage breakdown is more widespread in the elderly.

4. Sciatica

When the sciatic nerve is compressed, the pain will almost continually radiate in the same area. Likewise, it may spread across the leg. Said nerve is located along the lower back all the way down to the hips and around the buttocks.

Slip discs are another cause of pressure. Hence, inflammation and pain will unavoidably arise, resulting in sciatica.

5. Bulging Disks And/Or Ruptured Disks

Both of these conditions transpire when the disks on your spine rupture. Only, bulging disks oftentimes apply more pressure on nerves, thereby causing more pain. Bulging and/or ruptured disks can affect several disks at a time.

6. Back Pain Due To Poor Posture

Another common type of back pain is one that is widespread in adults, as it occurs in about 70% of the world’s working population— back pain due to poor posture. Many patients are usually not aware that their poor posture is the source of pain in the first place. Or that they are, but choose not to rectify this back and spine problem.

Your physicians for pain management in greenbelt md will check on this factor with scrupulousness. He or she may prescribe therapy and/or treatment especially if poor posture has been causing you chronic pain, regardless of severity.
