Coronavirus Pandemic: Safety Should Remain A Priority This Summer

American citizens have been stuck indoors or close to home since the coronavirus pandemic began in early March of this year. To top it off, most non-essential activities have been canceled or postponed. Now that the seasons have once again changed, most people are anxious to get outdoors, socialize, and have a good time.

On the bright side of things, states across the country have begun the necessary phases of reopening. Though things are nowhere near back to normal, restrictions are loosening, businesses are reopening, and non-essential activities are resuming, which has people hastily leaving their houses to enjoy themselves.

Before heading out to partake in popular summer activities, however, American citizens are warned that the coronavirus pandemic is still very much a threat. Therefore, it is important to plan your summer with safety in mind.

Social Distancing is a Must

Many states have worked hard to flatten the curve in this pandemic. In order to keep the numbers low, it is essential for citizens to remember to follow social distancing regulations. This means steering clear of large crowds and keeping at least 6 feet of distance between you and others.

Wear Face Masks

If you’re planning on doing something indoors this summer, it is highly recommended that you continue to wear your face masks. Whether you plan on going out to eat at your favorite restaurant, shopping at a mall, or vacationing in a hotel, when you’re in closed spaces it is easy for the coronavirus to spread from one person to the next.

Face masks help to reduce your chances of contracting the virus. For outdoor events, however, face masks may not always be necessary if you’re social distancing or the crowds are small.

Avoid In-Person Visits with People Who are High-Risk

It may be weeks or months since you’ve seen your closest family and friends. All you want to do is reach out and spend some quality time together. While most states are allowing people to gather in small groups, this does not and should not apply to people who are at higher risk of contracting the coronavirus.

No matter what the occasion or how much the person means to you, you must prioritize their health and wellbeing. Continue to reach out to them through safe methods like sending hilarious birthday cards via email, scheduling video chats, sending text messages, or connecting through social media.

Stick to Outdoor Events

Though there is still a lot to discover about the coronavirus, medical experts believe that the risk of spreading the virus is higher indoors. When enclosed indoors with someone who is infected, they can breathe, cough, or sneeze and send the virus into the air. Though there is some ventilation, it’s simply not a guarantee that it’s enough to keep the virus from spreading to others. So, when you’re planning activities to do for the summer, try to stick to things that are outdoors where the risk of spread is dramatically reduced.

Be Cautious When Traveling

Airports, hotels, and tourist attractions are starting to reopen worldwide. Anyone planning on traveling this summer should do so with extreme caution. Be sure that where you’re traveling to is seeing a decline in affected citizens. Consider traveling by car instead of hopping on a plane as ventilation issues can become a problem.

If you are going to reserve plane tickets, you should try to reserve them during a time when most people are less likely to travel to avoid being contained in a small space with lots of people. Also, be sure that you take protection with you including face masks, hand sanitizer, and gloves.

Summer is already a popular time of year for people to get out, socialize, and have a good time. After being indoors for the past few months, the reopening of states and countries makes these summertime urgers are even stronger. While you don’t necessarily have to stay cooped up indoors all summer long. If you’re going to venture out, make sure you do so safely following the advice listed above.
