Law Advice When You Are Involved In A Truck Accident

Truck accidents are some of the most deadly on the roads. Riding alongside an 18-wheeler, it’s easy to see why. A commercial truck can outweigh a standard passenger car by as much as 77,000 pounds.

In California, Highway 99 remains one of the most dangerous stretches of road in the state. More than 250 people die in truck accidents there every year.

According to the Pasadena based Law Offices of Pius Joseph represent people who have been injured in California truck accidents. According to firm founder Pius Joseph, truck accidents often result in catastrophic harm such as traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries and severely broken bones. He says that more needs to be done to protect motorists from negligent truck drivers and trucking companies, not only in California but nationwide.

Why is California Such a Problem for Trucking Accidents?

California boasts the largest economy of any state in the United States. It also has one of the largest populations in the country. Lots of people and a booming economy means there are far more vehicles on the road, and highways tend to be more congested.

This is a big issue for vehicles, but even more so with trucks, says Joseph.

On busy urban roads, the chances of being in an auto accident are already higher. But trucks require longer distances to stop, have limited visibility, and need excellent routine maintenance to perform optimally. Negligence on the part of any driver, mechanic or other reckless party could result in a truck accident lawsuit if an accident occurs.

In addition, truck drivers and truck companies must meet strict federal guidelines for safe driving, loading, and inspections of their vehicles. Failure to meet those standards can also be grounds for a lawsuit and support a claim for compensation.

What Should You Do if You’re Involved in a Truck Accident?

If you or a loved one is injured in a truck accident, you may be entitled to compensation. You should consider talking with a knowledgeable truck accident attorney about your legal rights and options.

Truck accident cases are very complicated, involving a combination of state and federal laws. They also tend to have the potential for higher financial recoveries for victims, because liability may fall not only on the truck driver, but on other entities protected by high-dollar insurance policies. However, insurance companies are not going to give up full and fair compensation easily. By talking with a reliable and experienced lawyer, you can get the legal advice you need and deserve.
