Dear Erika,
My wife Jeri and I have owned and operated our local radio station, KHTS since 1990, in suburban Los Angeles, Santa Clarita, California. We never met Charlie, but Charlie Kirk has been an integral part of our lives for many years.
Our radio station was one of the early affiliates to carry Charlie’s radio show, which we still broadcast daily during afternoon drive. Over the years, we’ve heard hundreds of hours of Charlie’s interviews and wisdom. Often, I’d catch my wife sitting in her car, having pulled into our garage at the end of her day, refusing to enter our house because she was enthralled, remaining until the end of a segment of his show.
We heard the intelligence, honesty, curiosity, empathy, inspiration, humor and overall goodness Charlie conveyed daily over our airwaves. Like most of the world, we were rocked to our core on September 10th.
Now you are our inspiration. Words can’t express the courage, strength and love you expressed to our nation days after his death, and again on Sunday at his memorial. As you so passionately expressed in your address last week,
“You have no idea what you just have unleashed across this entire country and this world…. You have no idea the fire that you have ignited within this wife. The cries of this widow will echo around the world like a battle cry.”
Like so many of us, we are deeply troubled by the minority who continue to share lies about your husband. There are no words for the 118 Congressional Democrats who couldn’t vote for the bill honoring Charlie.
Jimmy Kimmel’s refusal to issue an apology for his on-air spewing of fabrication and hate is beyond baffling. Most disappointing is former President Obama’s reinforcement of all the lies about Charlie. Obama pulled Charlie’s words out of context, cherry picking pieces of his statements to make him sound like a racist, bigot or even worse. During the hundreds of hours Charlie has filled our airwaves, we never once heard him utter anything racist or fascist, in fact his words were always quite the opposite. He constantly reached out to those who disagreed with his views, inviting them up to the microphone to, “prove me wrong.”
President Obama had the opportunity to unify us by rallying his supporters to follow Charlie’s mission, to agree to disagree, to follow in Charlie’s footsteps and begin a dialogue to better understand each other. Instead, our former President threw the moment away and lied about Charlie, further dividing instead of unifying us.
Erika, your decision to lead the Turning Point movement has been courageous and inspiring. It has given us confidence that Charlie’s mission has only started.
We may never meet in person, but find comfort that we, and our listeners, are there for you. Three of our valley’s seven high schools formed early chapters of Turning Point, USA. Now our goal will be to inspire our other four high schools to follow suit. Our media outlet will encourage and support them.
We will also enroll those haters we encounter to listen to Charlie’s words so they can share in the loss we are all experiencing.

Thank you carl for having the courage to publicly speak out against the lies pushed towards Charlie kirk.
This horrible killing of someone speaking truth and bringing on public debate has torn families and friends apart.
I myself have been torn from my older son because of this, he is convinced by the left that charlie is racist and pushes hate, he brought up the cliped statement made by Charlie about a black pilot, i sent him the video Charlie made about hiring people to fill a race quota instead of hiring by merit and my son is no longer speaking to me because he is already convinced by the lefts cropping of statements and videos of Charlie kirk that he is a hateful racist. I have never seen Charlie spead hate or racism. He just speaks truth and biological facts.
I hope he has given others the courage to stand up and speak truth and facts before all of America is lost in the lies.
America is no longer racist, no one cares what color you are, we are all trying to make it here !
A man in a dress is not a woman its just a man in a dress but we still accept him, dont force us to think he is a woman ?
No beliefs should be pushed on children without parent permission, even LGBTQ+beliefs that say kids are born gay or even in the wrong bodies !
If we can just all agree on this we can become the United States once again.
Carl, What a blessing that you decided to post this open letter to Erika Kirk. It shows the unending kindness that you and Jeri have always shown to the residence of Santa Clarita. I lived in Santa Clarita from 1985-2022 so I basically had you in my life for a better part of over 30 years. Even though we never met, you both have been like my extended family. (until Covid when you got sick) Again, thank you for posting this “shout out” to Erika. She is an amazing woman and will need all the support she can get after this unthinkable tragedy! I personally will be praying for her and The Turning Point USA Team to continue Charlie’s Mission. We all need to carry this important message of “God, Family, Country” to build up the Body of Christ which is totally diverse throughout the world. Thank God for Charlie, he was “bold in Christ” to bring the message of the Gospel to everyone to understand what this country was founded on! And certainly what we need going forward!! First, the comment to the author, ‘wow, what a great Jew you are’, is an example of how grossly ill-informed people are. Pepper that with an overinflated sense of self and the degree of entitlement that this commenter feels in order to insult the author.
This open letter is how the majority of the citizens in this country feel, as evidenced by the outpouring of vigils across the country, (no one burned down a city or looted a business), the applications of over 58,000 new Turning Point chapters in schools across the country, and the endless sorrow-filled social media posts in response to the assassination of this man that occurred in front of his wife, toddler daughter, and those at UVU, that no doubt have been traumatized and scarred by this evil act. The global response has been overwhelmingly positive.
Online news spread like wildfire, and publications such as CNBC, The Guardian, (a United Kingdom owned and based publication), and the BBC were quick to print their lead stories, all fairly identical, missing integral, critical facts, (how weird is that?), ‘Trump ally Charlie Kirk shot during campus event at Utah Valley University’. Trump ally. How incredibly transparent and inflammatory. To be perfectly clear, he was assassinated and the early information from many legacy news source, disseminating the identical message, declared it was someone firing their gun in excitement, implying it was an accident. Shameful. There was no evidence to support that whatsoever at any time. Pure fabrication. Irresponsible, shabby journalism.
For those that are MSM, headline and celebrity educated, and only follow those sources, the perpetrator came from a good family in Utah. His father, a Pastor, encouraged him to turn himself in to authorities. After this person was exposed to ‘higher education’, the young man was found to be in a romantic relationship and living with a young man transitioning to be a woman, and the perpetrator was into furry culture. He was never MAGA as Jimmy Kimmel stated. Make America Great Again. Make America sane again. Make America civil again. Make America safe again. Make America prosperous again. That’s what the movement stands for. For those not in the know, furry culture involves young and old that act like cats, meow in school and public, walk around on leashes, and appear in public wearing ears and tails. How do I know? I have a friend whose son just started junior high school and he has four furry students in a class that meow and disrupt classroom lessons. They came from elementary school. This is not uncommon. Quite the opposite. How far we have fallen to be forced into accepting mental illness and delusion for fear of being called racists, fascists, cancelled and now, murdered.
Pictures of the young man in his booking photos depicts an empty shell of a being. Soulless, heartless, emotionless, and quite evil. If you need to feel empathy for this person, go right ahead. I will not. He was indoctrinated, radicalized and filled with hate and committed the ultimate act of evil. He took a life. We are completely rotting from this inside out as a society. Anyone that celebrates this action or makes excuses, and spews out the inevitable, ‘but’, is on the wrong side, and that is exactly where we are at the present time. Our world has become desensitized to grotesque acts of violence and condone this horrific display merely because someone expressed an opinion that was different from theirs.
Charlie Kirk was a good and kind man. An intelligent man. A loving, open-minded individual that wanted to engage in dialogue, especially with those that disagreed with him, and if you don’t know that, #WeAreNotTheSame. He was murdered for all those reasons, and that folks, is the presence of pure evil that you’re witnessing, out in the open, blanketing the earth, and not because I say so. It’s because it IS so. Good and evil exists.
Lastly, this open letter is how in a civil society, we are able to express our thoughts and opinions as guaranteed in the First Amendment of the Constitution of The United States of America.

Political assassination for speech is not new.
It was wrong 2000 years ago, and it is still wrong.
You will notice there is no Roman Empire.
Our Republic is worth saving.
Speak up for free speech, as did Mr. Kirk.
