A simple game of golf took on new meaning Sunday afternoon when local high school students, along with their family and friends, teed off at Robinson Ranch Golf Course…
The annual tournament, now in its 15th year, helped to raise money for area high school golf teams. Last year the event pulled in over $10,000 for the Valencia, Canyon, West Ranch, and Golden Valley teams.
Entrance to the tournament was $200 per player, all of which was donated to area schools. For the fee, players got dinner, a goodie-bag and the chance to compete for prizes, which included two $300 gift certificates from BJ’s Brewhouse and the grand prize, a new Toyota Camry from Frontier Toyota.
The tournament provides much-needed funding for golf teams that don’t receive enough from their schools, said Bob Meyers, who has been coaching golf at Canyon High School for 18 years.
“It’s just not a cheap game to play,” he said.
