Coroner’s officials identified the man as Lucas Rodriguez, 20, of Valencia.
Rodriguez was first discovered around 3 p.m. Monday afternoon when emergency responders were called out to Bridgeport Coast Apartments on the corner of McBean Parkway and Newhall Ranch Road.
The incident was initially reported as a “man down with blood coming out of his mouth,” said Inspector Marron of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Emergency responders rushed Rodriguez to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital and called in the assistance of Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies to investigate.
“If we don’t know what it is, we will have (deputies) come in just in case. Just as a precaution,” said Marron.
Deputies were still conducting their investigation at the complex parking lot as of 11:35 a.m. Tuesday, said Sgt. Bringas of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
Bringas noted that “suspicious circumstances” forced the extended investigation, but was unable to elaborate further on Tuesday.
Then officials from the Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau were called in to take over the investigation after Rodriguez succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, said Sgt. Peacock of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
The case is currently being investigated as an “accident versus suicide,” with the cause of death yet to be determined, according to Coroner’s officials.

Do anyone know the young man Lucas ? He was so young. My condolences to his family.
My grandma knew him, his mom was friends with my grandma. He had a thing where every time he’d accidentally get hurt, he’d say “Pancakes anyone?”
