Caltrans To Complete 14 Freeway Pavement Project In June

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is set to close portions of State Route 14 between Santa Clarita and Palmdale next week for a pavement rehabilitation project, officials said Thursday.

“The target date for the construction to end is early June,” said Jeremiah Teves, spokesperson for the Department of Traffic.

The project is set to improve the condition of the lanes and create a smoother ride for motorists, according to officials.

The project includes replacing concrete slabs, grinding and striping both directions of the 14 Freeway between the Santa Clara River and Technology Drive, according to officials.

The project requires closing two lanes to facilitate a safe work zone to protect workers and motorists.

All closures are weather-permitting and subject to change.

Myers and Sons Construction is the contractor on the $6.6 million pavement rehabilitation project and is estimated to be completed by spring 2019, according to officials.

Closures are scheduled nightly on Monday, April 15 through Saturday, April 20 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., according to officials.

Motorists should expect delays and are strongly advised to plan ahead, and to use alternate routes, and avoid the area if possible.

Additionally, motorists can check traffic conditions before they leave by visiting the Caltrans Quickmap.

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
