The owner of a Santa Clarita tile company is offering the community her advice on tile design when it comes to current trends.

“I don’t follow trends per say because tile is very permanent, so I want people to put in what they’re going to love,” said Cheryl Ingrassia from Southern California Tile. “I am a little conservative when it comes to tile designs.”
Ingrassia recommends choosing classic neutral colors that will stand the test of time.

“We don’t know what the trends are going to change into, so you don’t want to put in the current color, which is, I think, salmon this year,” Ingrassia said. “If you stay with your neutrals, … then you can decorate around that.”
When it comes to choosing granite versus quartz, Ingrassia noted that granite is nature-made and so less predictable, where quartz can be “controlled.”
“You can’t control the color of granite,” she said. “But there’s so many beautiful things that can be brought into it. But every customer has to decide what they want to do.”
The biggest mistake that Ingrassia hears from the public is people who “put too much trust” into their contractor on a home remodel project.
“You still have to be an advocate for yourself and you do kind of have to still watch the project,” Ingrassia said. “I hear so many people say how things happened because they didn’t want to bother the contractor or ask a question, and they wait and then it’s too late.”
Ingrassia continued, “I was just talking to a client today and I said, ‘Call me anytime you have a question.’ I’d rather answer it now than have to try and figure out where it went wrong later on.”
