Westfield Valencia Mall Unveils Luxury Cinema, Second Costco Location

Westfield Valencia Town Center officials unveiled their proposed plans Thursday, which include the first local luxury cinema and the addition of Santa Clarita’s second Costco retail location.

Westfield officials announced their proposed plans for a $100 million investment in the evolution of the center with “The Patios Connection” development project.

The Patios Connection project will convert the former Sears location, creating dynamic new offerings that provide everyday conveniences in one location, according to Westfield officials.

The development project plans include Santa Clarita’s first luxury cinema, a full-service health and fitness center, additional specialty brand shops, and the addition of Santa Clarita’s second Costco retail location which will be oriented to open on the northside of the center facing toward Magic Mountain Parkway, according to officials.

“We believe the project speaks to the changing retail landscape and complements the center’s existing offerings by adding additional daily conveniences that allow families to shop, workout, run errands, be entertained and socialize all in one place,” said Corrine Barchanowicz, senior general manager of Valencia Town Center.  “We are strategically investing in the center in new ways that create a diversified and elevated shopping and entertainment experience.”

Officials say the core of the design enhances the overall flow and connectivity of the center.

Patrons will be able to gather in curated spaces and travel via an open-air, grand escalator from the new Costco up to the shops and retail space at The Patios level, which also connects with the new luxury cinema and fitness center.

In order to meet the needs of growth in the Santa Clarita Valley, Costco is set to open its second location to provide guests the opportunity to shop and meet friends for lunch or catch a movie, all at one destination, according to officials.

“Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield has seen tremendous success with the addition of Costco to other high-end centers in both California and Maryland,” said Chris Kitchen, vice president of development for Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield. “We recently conducted a survey at The Village at Topanga which showed 55 percent of Costco shoppers also visited at least one other destination within the center on the same trip. Today’s shoppers are looking for everyday conveniences in one location.”

The project is set to focus on convenience and also aims to improve parking at The Patios. With the addition of a 320-space lot on top of the new Costco, visitors are set to have new, easy access to The Patios, luxury cinema, and health and fitness center.

The Patios Connection is set to create an additional 486 full-time equivalent direct and indirect jobs, and contribute more than $6 million in annual revenue to the City of Santa Clarita, according to officials.

During construction, the development project is set to create 900 full-time equivalent direct and indirect jobs and over $180 million in economic benefit.

Westfield Valencia Town Center currently houses approximately 180 businesses, making it the second largest economic generator in the City of Santa Clarita with over 1,000 jobs, according to officials.

In November 2018, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield announced a $20 million renovation for the interior of the shopping center. The renovations are currently underway and anticipated to be completed before the end of 2019, according to Westfield officials.

Westfield Valencia Mall Unveils Luxury Cinema, Second Costco Location

  1. Very happy about a luxury cinema and a Costco so close to where I live!!

  2. The parking I is terrible already. Costco needs its own spot. I’ve been to the one in topanga will never go back what a mess

    • If you look at the other side of the mall (the side not by the patios) the parking lot is always deserted. There is usually plenty of parking if you’re not too lazy to walk.

  3. Why not put Costco where Sears was located?
Makes too much sense to do it that way?

  4. Instead of another club with just treadmills and exercise bikes, please be unique and pattern it after the UNC Wellness Center at Meadowmont in North Carolina. or Good Samaritan Wellness in Downers Grove IL. Both have Indoor Running Tracks which is a rare find in California

  5. How stupid is this? Why do we need another Costco and a Luxury Cinema, who wants to pay $40 for a movie.

  6. I currently live in Italy and we have nothing like this mall in the small town of Binasco near Milan.Every business is a small shop.If you want fruit there is a store for fruit, another for meat, another for bread and another for fish.Nothing is in one location. Also, shops are open at different hours of the day with Monday being a bad day to shop since Italians are on their weekend break Sunday and a Monday. The one major difference between living in Italy vs. America is CONVENIENCE.

  7. Where, how and what are the parking plans girvthese expansions. Presently I find myself. Driving around and around to park except if I want and pay for valet??????

  8. We need another Costco to keep those people over there where they belong. I can only hope that Costco figures something out to rectify the gasoline line. Put up a parking structure that would accommodate another 600 cars.

    • The view of where Costco will be shows it is much larger than the present Sears. It is kind of sneaky that they did not show the decreased number of parking spaces, or any new parking options. With the incompetent local government who approves anything the developers want, the citizens are in for some serious problems with parking and traffic. Just went by there last evening, and even with the Sears store closed, there were hardly any empty spaces.

    • Duuude!!Kirkland beer today!! Costoco haaa

  9. So where will us mall employees have to park now…across the street??

  10. That’s awesome! I wonder what will become of the Edward’s theater on the other side of the mall?

  11. What a wonderful way to revitalize an area of the mall long neglected and bring Costco to our side of the Valley. With traffic the way it is, it could take 20 minutes or more to travel to the Canyon Country Costco either using 5 South/14 North -or- even longer using surface streets. I expect this project to generate even more economic growth than was conservatively projected.

  12. Wondering if anyone has seen or heard of the deal that Costco received from city and/or Westfield to come to this mall in central city versus out by the open space of the 5/126 area where it would garner greater freeway visiblity and also be on the periphery where Newhall Ranch will be and any centralized mid city trafffic woes from gas station and parking could be more efficiently mitigated. Could this be a Laemelle Theater deal on a larger scale? I have not seen anything on the deal itself. Are taxpayer funds or incentives involved?

    • I agree with you Scott. The western end of SCV could use another Costco, but putting it mid-valley makes little sense to me. With the valley expanding westward, something near the 5/126 makes much better sense long-term. Sounds like Westfield is simply shoehorning Costco into existing space, trying to mimic their Topanga property, and it will be a nightmare to an already congested area.

Guess it’s all economics to the city and the property owners, let the residents deal with the downside later.

  13. It is sad that we run out of department stores, that developers now have to look into grocery stores at shopping malls to full vacant space. It would have been better to have Dillard’s or Nordstrom to fill that space. It was interesting to see Targets at malls. But now Costco? What next, a Vons if Jcpenney closes down?

  14. Duuuude!!! Costco haaa!!! Kirkland beer today!!!

  15. Looking forward to Costco opening , it would be closer to US , close to shops I go and Cinema ?

  16. When is this Costco supposed to open? I can’t find that info anywhere.
