On Tuesday night, in front of a packed House Chamber at the nation’s Capitol Building, President Donald Trump delivered his first State of the Union address to the 115th Congress. Among those present was Congressman Steve Knight.
“For too long, Washington has been locked in bitter partisanship that has hindered the government’s ability to deliver solutions to the challenges facing hardworking American families,” said Knight in his statement regarding the President Trump’s speech. “I appreciated the call tonight to put aside our differences to work towards the common goal of creating a more prosperous, secure, and free America.”

During the speech, President Trump touched on the past year’s military successes in the fight against ISIS, while also outlining the goals his administration has for the future of the U.S. Armed Forces.
“Around the world, we face rogue regimes, terrorist groups, and rivals like China and Russia that challenge our interests, our economy, and our values,” said President Trump. “In confronting these dangers, we know that weakness is the surest path to conflict, and unmatched power is the surest means of our defense.”
The President’s comments resonated with Knight in terms of how the former service member turned Congressman wishes to support and improve the United States military.
“In 2017, we lost 80 service members due to training (accidents) alone,” said Knight. “This is because our troops are using equipment that is run down, manning vehicles that are well beyond their lifespans and not getting nearly the adequate training time they need.”
Knight said he approved of Donald Trump’s comments on North Korea: “North Korea’s reckless pursuit of nuclear missiles could very soon threaten our homeland.”
“As I’ve always said, the first priority of the federal government is the safety and security of our home,” said Knight. “With increasing threats from North Korea, Russia, Iran and terrorist organizations, we cannot afford to not fulfill this duty.”
In addition to commending the President’s stance on the military, Knight further elaborated on the President’s praise of the most recent GOP tax bill.
“In the first year of the 115th Congress, my colleagues and I in the House have accomplished much to remove many of the job-killing regulations that held our economy back,” said Knight. “Most notably, we were able to seize a once-in-a-generation opportunity to overhaul our tax code to make it more fair, less burdensome, and more conducive to economic growth.”
Trump demanded “unwavering support” for police, active military and veterans — a sentiment that Knight also alluded to.

“Another major accomplishment of 2017 was the overhaul and improvement of the services we provide to our nation’s military veterans,” said Knight. “Between the VA CHOICE Act and the VA Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act, we have provided our veterans with greater options and higher quality services when it comes to their healthcare needs.”
Knight called for bipartisan cooperation in regards to DACA and immigration policy, calling on legislators to follow Trump’s advice to craft a new immigration policy that addressed the complex issue.
“I am confident that a bipartisan and comprehensive solution to DACA and our immigration policy will be found soon,” said Knight. “Additionally, we must seek trade deals that foster international partnerships while also prioritizing the interests of American workers and consumers.”
“I look forward to continue fighting for the people of California’s 25th District,” he said.

Mr. Knight, if you feel you made changes to “our tax code to make it more fair, less burdensome, and more conducive to economic growth,” you are either just as delusional as Trump, or just as much of a liar. You know there was nothing fair about it (83% of the benefits going to the top 1% of the population).
And what about all the other lies and exaggerations in the SOTU that you didn’t address? That the tax cut was NOT the biggest in history, that job creation is at the lowest in 7 years, that average wages increased only 4 cents an hour, that average family income is not going to increase by $4,000/year, that Trump’s administration hasn’t done a damn thing about the price of prescription drugs, and on and on.
And are you going to address that while Trump is saying “jobs, jobs, jobs,” job creation is not only slowing, but companies like Harley Davidson, Pfizer, Wal-Mart, AT&T, General Electric, Carrier, and Comcast are laying of tens of thousands or workers.
But no, you don’t want to talk about those things. Let’s just keep throwing out slogans and platitudes… Make America Great Again! Support our Police and Troops, Beautiful Clean Coal! Build the Wall! Come on, we need actual solutions and leadership, not continuous BS and slogans.
Thank you Brian. I could not have said it any better myself. This guy Steve Knight has to go. He is a walking talking disaster and a corrupt liar.
