Jenny Craig, the well-known weight loss program, is closing its doors this Friday all over the country including in Santa Clarita due to the company running out of money. 

After 40 years in the weight loss and nutrition business, Jenny Craig is set to close its doors on Friday, according to an NBC article. 

Employees received an email late Tuesday saying that the company is set to close due to its inability to secure additional financing, according to officials. 

Corporate employee’s at the company in the Carlsbad, California office received a WARN Act Notice. 

For the past two weeks, Jenny Craig has been running out of money as it searched for a buyer and Bloomberg Law reported last month that the company was pursuing a sale. 

The company has had increased competition after a handful of drugs that can help people lose weight such as Wegovy, Rybelsus and Ozempic have gained popularity. 

Jenny Craig was founded in 1983 to help people lose weight and provided special menus that were designed by chefs and nutritionists to help consumers lose weight. 

Over the years, celebrities have been selected to help promote the company including actors Kirstie Alley, Valerie Bertinelli and Jason Alexander and singer-songwriter Mariah Carey.
