Nail Salons, Tattoo Shops, Casinos Allowed To Reopen In Los Angeles County

Nail salons, tattoo shops, casinos and skincare businesses are allowed to reopen in Los Angeles County starting Friday if coronavirus guidelines are followed, officials said.

Supervisor Kathryn Barger discussed the Los Angeles County reopening process as the “Safer at Home” health order, as leaders work toward the COVID-19 recovery.

“Yesterday, L.A. County announced another step in our road map to recovery by reopening additional services and recreational activities,” Barger said.

In addition to the reopening announced Thursday, Barger said the County is working on additional plans for weddings, special events, amusement parks, festivals and more.

“During this process we are committed to representing our communities and businesses while keeping our residents state in addition given a significant and lasting impact of COVID-19,” Barger said.

Cardrooms, satellite wagering facilities, and racetrack onsite wagering facilities may reopen on June 19, 2020. The owner, manager or operator of a cardroom, satellite wagering facility, or racetrack onsite wagering facility must, prior to reopening, prepare, implement and post the required Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Reopening Protocol, according to the County.

Along with cardrooms and other wagering facilities, salons and skincare practices are permitted to open June 19, also following health and safety guidelines.

“Nail salons, tanning salons, esthetician, skincare, and cosmetology services; electrology, body art professionals, tattoo parlors, and piercing shops; and massage therapy (in non-healthcare settings), and may reopen on June 19, 2020, provided that the number of persons admitted into these establishments is limited to 50 percent of the total maximum occupancy,” reads the update.

An additional 1,114 Los Angeles County coronavirus cases and 38 additional deaths were confirmed Friday, officials said.

The L.A. County total of coronavirus cases now stands at 79,609 according to Dr. Barbra Ferrer, director of the L.A. County Department of Public Health.

Over 890,000 coronavirus tests have been conducted across Los Angeles County, with about 8 percent testing positive for the virus, a rate that has remained constant over time, according to Ferrer.

However, she noted previously that 86 percent of people who tested positive were asymptomatic, underlining the need for social distancing and other measures in order to prevent spread to others.

Approximately 10 percent of all people who tested positive for COVID-19 have been hospitalized at some point during their illness, of those, 1,446 are currently hospitalized, according to public health officials.

38 new deaths were reported Friday, bringing the total of COVID-19-related deaths to 3,063 in Los Angeles County, according to Ferrer.

About 93 percent of all deaths in the county had underlying health conditions, according to Ferrer, further encouraging those with medical issues to stay home, if possible.

The percentage has stayed “consistent” through the pandemic, according to Public Health officials.

As of Thursday afternoon, a total of 2,778 cumulative cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the Santa Clarita Valley since testing began in March. These include:

  • 930 in the City of Santa Clarita
  • 39 in the unincorporated areas of Canyon Country
  • 1,724 in Castaic*
  • Five in the unincorporated areas of Saugus
  • 43 in Stevenson Ranch
  • 12 in the unincorporated areas of Valencia
  • 23 in the unincorporated areas of Val Verde
  • One in the unincorporated areas of Newhall
  • One in the unincorporated areas of Bouquet Canyon

*As of Wednesday, June 17, officials had recorded 1,312 cumulative cases among prisoners at the North County Correctional Facility, and 486 at the Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center. Those cases are counted in both the Santa Clarita and Castaic totals.

Additionally, nine cases have been confirmed in nearby Agua Dulce, as well as 18 in Acton.

The Department of Public Health has redistributed cases among several areas of Santa Clarita on Wednesday, causing a reduction in reported cases in Canyon Country and Stevenson Ranch.

An update on the cases in the Santa Clarita Valley is expected later Friday afternoon.

  1. Get your manis/pedis and tattoos while you can, cause it looks like we’re gonna close up shop again soon, the way things are going…….

  2. Not me. I’m still going about. Nobody is going to enforce this. If you choose to stay home, your choice. Not mine. Start grabbing your tp and hand sanitizer fearful peeps!

  3. No WAY I’m setting foot in any salon, gaming or sporting facility…at least for a good long while. This includes restaurants.

I’ve always colored my hair but now I have 3.5 inches of gray hair growing out. I don’t like it one bit and I don’t look good gray but its not worth going into public just to ‘look’ better.

Nope, vanity is so not worth it.

    • I agree with you on that 100%! I’m not going to any of these places for a long time either! You gotta use your own common sense! I’m not taking any chances of getting this if I can! Sure, I would LOVE to go out to eat, get my hair done, see concerts etc., but, like you said, it’s just not worth it right now!

  4. If you are anxious and worried, don’t go out. That’s your choice. I’m living my life and by the looks of it around town, so many people are living and enjoying being out and about again. You do you! ✌?

    • Bunch of fools! Just because you CAN go out, and do whatever doesn’t mean you SHOULD! I love my parents and grandparents and want to keep them around for as long as possible! I certainly don’t want to be responsible for killing them! I have what’s called a ‘concience’ and wouldn’t wanna live with that, myself! Yes, I will continue to do the right thing and wear my mask even though I hate it as much as any other person and limit my exposure in public!
