The first sighting took place at Oak Tree Gun Club, sometime before 8 p.m.

A brown bear took a visit to the Newhall gun range for a snack, apparently. Witnesses noted the bear “walked right through the field to the parking lot, picked up a trash can, dumped it over and ate all the trash in it.”

Officers also responded to Higher Vision to make sure churchgoers remained safe from the bear. Photo by Rick McClure

Residents reported to California Highway Patrol officers around 8:42 p.m. a bear sighting at Higher Vision Church by The Old Road and Henry Mayo Drive.

Officers responded and “advised churchgoers to shelter,” according to CHP officials. CHP officers left around 9:20 p.m., when Sheriff’s Department officials arrived on scene.

Officers and deputies were there to provide containment.

“Units located a black bear behind the establishments, who took off running across The Old Road and into the hills near Magic Mountain,” according to Rick McClure, who also grabbed several pictures of the bear. “No injuries were reported and the search was discontinued.

  1. Im surprised we don’t see more of these animals, with their habitats being destroyed and replaced by cookie cutters.

    • Wow! “CBr”s comment about the bears habitat being destroyed is thought provoking.

I suppose CBr has a point. Maybe the suggestion of not building more homes for humans so as we do not destroy the bears habitat, is a better idea.

Never mind the humans who wont have houses to live in, they can live outside with the bears. Or would that be bad for their habitat too?
