Probation Check Leads To Arrest In Santa Clarita

Deputies conducted checks on four probationers Wednesday in Valencia, and two were found to be in violation of their probation, officials said.

The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Crime Prevention Unit teamed up with J-Team deputies and a county probation officer Wednesday morning for probation searches, said Shirley Miller, a spokesperson for the station.

These checks are conducted as part of ongoing efforts to make sure that probationers residing in the Santa Clarita Valley are keeping to their terms of probation, Miller said.

Crime Prevention deputies selected four locations in Valencia to conduct their search during this week’s operation.

At two of the locations checked, probationers were found to be in violation, according to officials.

“One probationer was found to have moved and had not updated his address with the probation department,” Miller said.

The other probationer was found to allegedly have narcotics and a weapon at his place of residence, according to officials.

The probationer was not at home at the time, but deputies were able to track him down to a Saugus park, where he was taken into custody without incident, Miller said.

“We will continue doing these probation checks as time allows,” Miller said. “Probationers need to know that they will be held accountable for their actions. Otherwise, that freedom that they are enjoying can be quickly taken away.”

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
