Santa Clarita Arts Run To Bring Art-Filled Course Back To Heritage Park

The Santa Clarita Arts Run is set to return this weekend with a 5K and 10K to raise money for different nonprofit art organizations, officials said Thursday.

The run is scheduled for Saturday, April 27 at Heritage Park, according to officials.

“Participating in the Arts Run helps raise funds for nonprofit arts organizations that bring visual, performing, cultural and literary art programs to the community and keep arts alive and strong,” event organizers said.

While participants in the race are competing, they are set to be able to look at different art displays along the course.

The race is set to offer three different runs: a 10K, a 5K and a kids’ obstacle course, where the obstacles are different art pieces, said Stephanie O’Conner, a chairperson for the event.

“People who ran the race last year said, ‘That was the most fun race I have done in my life,’” O’Conner said. “’I wasn’t bored the whole time because there was something new happening around every bend, and it kept me going.’”

Throughout the course, there are set to be water stations for the runners.

At the end of the race, the first, second and third place runners from the 10K and 5K runs are set to receive medals, according to event organizers.

To enroll in the race, 10K entry fees are set at $63, 5K fees are $58 and the kids’ obstacle course fees are $40.

Thursday evening is the last night to register online, but runners are able to register the day of the race as well.

The event is scheduled to start at 6 a.m., with the different races starting at 8 a.m.

There are different art displays to look at during the two-hour period before the races begin, O’Conner said.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
