‘Avengers: Endgame’ Movie Breaking Records Before Opening Day, Santa Clarita Fans Embrace Hype

Many Santa Clarita residents are getting ready to see “Avengers: Endgame,” a movie over a decade in the making that seeks to close a chapter on one of the most popular film franchises of the 21st century.

“‘Avengers: Endgame,’ similar to the characters starring within it, brings together an array of genres and generations of pop culture fans, all with unique origin stories,” said Andy Liegl, owner of Brave New World Comics in Newhall.

In May 2008, the movie “Iron Man” started the events that have led to a series of box office successes. Since then, Marvel’s comic book characters seem to have hit the big screen in a big way.

Disney and Marvel have reportedly netted $18.7 billion since the first film, and “Avengers: Endgame” is on track to be another big success.

“In culminating over a decade’s worth of storytelling, ‘Avengers: Endgame’ accomplishes what no other cinematic franchise has been able to before: encompassing the smaller, unique parts of a universe in order to make way for an epically accessible and emotionally powerful finale,” Liegel said.

Over 20 feature films later, “Avengers: Endgame” is already breaking records. The movie surpassed both Fandango and AMC ticket pre-sale records, according to CNN.

In fact, the demand for tickets was so high, AMC’s ticketing app and site went down temporarily when they were made available, CNN reported.

The new Avengers installment may be the seventh motion picture ever to open over $200 million, domestically. Three of the six movies that already have that honor are Marvel movies.

The largest opening in history was last year’s “Avengers: Infinity War,” with $258 million domestic opening weekend.

“Avengers: Endgame” is not the end for Marvel’s on-screen characters. Disney’s new streaming service, named “Disney+,” is set to be host to four new series featuring Marvel’s heroes and villains.

“When the credits roll, these characters continue to live on in the stories already told — and yet to come — within the pages of their comic books,” Liegl said.
