The 2019 Congressional Art Competition was held at FastFrame Valencia for the tenth year in a row on Wednesday.
“We have so many talented young people up here,” said Randy Burzynski, who owns FastFrame Valencia with his wife, Rosemary. “Year after year, it amazes me how they are able to execute what they think.”
The Congressional Art Competition has been a nationwide contest since 1982 and over 650,000 high school artists have participated in the contest.
“I’m so impressed by the young people in our community and what they’re able to do,” said Congresswoman Katie Hill, D-Agua Dulce.
The winner, Noelle Amey, was unable to attend the event due to work commitments, but she did talk to Hill over the phone Wednesday.
“I am not an artist at all, so when I talked to her on the phone I was just like, ‘How were you able to do this?’” Hill said.
Amey submitted a digital photo that was taken in the wash behind Bridgeport, and it depicts a girl in a bright yellow dress jumping up in a black and white background.
“The piece that was selected is really so appropriate for our district,” Hill said.
Amey, along with one family member, is set to fly out to Washington D.C. in June to see their art unveiled in the Capitol Building, courtesy of Southwest Airlines.
Amey is also set to come into the KHTS studio sometime next week, so be sure to stay tuned to 98.1 FM and AM 1220.
