The three Providence medical centers in the San Fernando Valley earned a total of nine Healthgrades Specialty Excellence Awards this week for outstanding clinical performance. Each of the hospitals also received top national acclaim, officials said Tuesday.

Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank was named among Healthgrades’ America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Specialty Care for vascular surgery, among the top 100 for critical care and honored for general surgery, according to officials.

Providence Tarzana Medical Center earned 100 Best Hospital honors for cardiac care and coronary intervention and was awarded for excellence in critical care.

Providence Holy Cross Medical Center excelled in pulmonary care and stroke care and was named among the 100 Best Hospitals for critical care.

“We’re very proud of these distinctions, as they validate efforts across our organization to share best practices and, more importantly, they are the result of excellent care for our patients,” said Sylvain Trepanier, chief clinical executive for parent organization Providence St. Joseph Health, Southern California. “Our physicians, clinicians and caregivers across each hospital work as a team to continuously raise the bar on quality care.”

In its 2020 Report to the Nation, Healthgrades, a consumer ratings company, ranked hospitals nationwide in 16 specialties. These awards recognize hospitals that consistently deliver outstanding clinical outcomes in key service areas.

Patients treated in hospitals that received one or more of these clinical distinctions have a significantly lower risk of dying or experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated in a hospital that did not, according to Providence.
