Weeknight Lane Closures Scheduled For Northbound 5 Freeway North Of Santa Clarita

The northbound 5 Freeway north of the Santa Clarita Valley is set to have lanes closed on weeknights for pavement work.

Crews with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) are set to close several 5 Freeway lanes north of Santa Clarita on weeknights through mid-October.

“The I-5 project will grind the surface of concrete slabs in northbound and southbound lanes to provide a smoother ride and extend the life of the pavement,” said a statement from Caltrans. “The project includes replacement of some concrete slabs.”

The closure is set to take place in the 15-mile stretch between Vista Del Lago Road in Lebec, north of Castaic, and the Kern County line.

From 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. each night, two out of four lanes are set to be closed. Then, from 1 a.m. to 4 a.m., three of the four freeway lanes are scheduled to be shuttered. Lastly, from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m., two of the four lanes are set to be closed.

After 6 a.m., all lanes are expected to be open, officials said.

The closures are not slated to happen during major holidays.

Once work on the northbound 5 Freeway is done, nightly closures are set to start on the southbound 5 and are expected to continue through mid-December.
