Each week, the Santa Clarita Valley Animal Care Center highlights a pet looking for a second chance, and this week that spotlight belongs to Cheri, a sweet senior Maltese mix hoping to find a loving forever home.
Cheri, animal ID #A5788794, is an 8-year-old Maltese mix currently available for adoption through the Santa Clarita Valley/Castaic Animal Care Center. She arrived at the shelter after being surrendered by her previous owner following a biting incident.

The bite occurred while the owner was grooming a husky in the home. Cheri became involved in the situation, and the owner was bitten while attempting to keep her away from the larger dog.
Despite the circumstances that led to her surrender, shelter staff and volunteers say Cheri has quickly shown her affectionate personality.
Since arriving at the care center, Cheri has become a favorite among both staff and volunteers, who describe her as a lovable dog ready to begin the next chapter of her life with a family willing to give her a fresh start.
Senior dogs like Cheri are often overlooked in shelters, but they can make wonderful companions. Many are already house-trained, have calmer temperaments and enjoy spending time with their owners without the high energy levels of younger dogs.
While Cheri is this week’s featured adoptable pet, the Santa Clarita Valley/Castaic Animal Care Center is home to many other animals looking for permanent homes. In addition to dogs and cats, the shelter also has pigs, roosters, guinea pigs and other animals available for adoption throughout the year.
Residents interested in meeting Cheri or learning more about the other adoptable animals at the Santa Clarita Valley/Castaic Animal Care Center are encouraged to visit the shelter during business hours or contact the center for additional information.
