Cinema Veterinary Centre in Santa Clarita joined the KHTS morning show with Tori & Kyle and shared the dangers and hazards with pets that increase in home during the holiday seasons.
As decorations fill the home , it can attract so many pets and cause them to want to play with these decorations. As we do love our decorations, we need to mitigate ways these decorations can get our pets into trouble. The shiny and colorful ribbons and tree ornaments should be kept away from all pet’s reach. Pets can and will find ways to get tangled and even accidentally ingest these decorations.
During holiday meals, the action of giving our pets a taste of the foods we indulge in can be harmful to their bodies. Giving pets foods outside of their suggested diets can upset their stomachs and lead to other things such as vomiting and diarrhea.
Instead of sharing holiday treats, try looking up dog and cat friendly treats instead, said Dr. Jaimie Ronchetto of Cinema Veterinary Centre. Make those to give instead of giving pets harmful treats.

These treats can include pumpkin and even some fruits such as bananas. It can be a fun engaging way to include the family pet in the holiday spirit and can even be practiced year round any time they deserve something for good behavior.
Dr. Ronchetto suggests that if you do decide to give any dinner table item to a pet, do so with healthy clean foods. This can include plain and unmarinated turkey, sweet potatoes, green beans, and other clean options you have researched that are suitable for your pet’s digestion.
Pets ingesting other harmful decorations include mistletoe and other decorative plants that we bring in the home during this time of the year is another thing to look out for.
Dangers in the home unrelated to food is the danger of fireplaces and fire pits. Open flames to us are obviously dangerous but to some curious pets it might not be. Make sure that during these colder times, any fireplaces are guarded with chains or gates to prevent any injuries to our curious pets in the house.
All these tips can help you and your pets both enjoy and stay his holiday season.
