Six Flags Magic Mountain Launches New ‘West Coast Racers’ Ride

Six Flags Magic Mountain previewed their new ride, West Coast Racers, to the media on Tuesday morning ahead of its grand opening to the public on Thursday, Jan. 9.

“We are getting ready to open a new five-acre land here at Six Flags Magic Mountain, the thrill capital of the world, where we debut West Coast Racers, our 19th coaster,” said Six Flags Magic Mountain Park President Neal Thurman.

The coaster is the marquee attraction to the new five-acre area named The Underground.

The Underground follows an urban-centric Los Angeles theme, and is located near the wooden coaster Apocalypse.

The new ride is the result of a partnership with West Coast Customs, which stretches back nine years, according to Thurman.

“So nine years ago, the relationship kind of started, and about three years ago we started working on this particular project with them,” Thurman said. “We were just waiting for the right project to use West Coast Customs on, and this was it.”

The collaborative effort is clear, as the ride features a queue modeled after the West Coast Customs shop in Burbank.

The queue even features a reproduction of the car the shop designed for Black Eyed Peas rapper Will I. Am, which the trains on the ride are also inspired by.

West Coast Racers marks another unique first for a park with many firsts to its name, as the world’s first single-track, quadruple-launch, racing coaster.

“The entire time, you’re side-by-side with the train that you’re racing throughout the ride. It’s an incredible experience,” Thurman said.
