“Don’t use the foam! The rodents will end up using it as a nesting material,” Cardon said.

Cardon recommends using quarter inch galvanized hardware cloth to cover the holes. This is easier to use because you can cut it up to however you want it. Screws, dry wall screw, and staple gun can easily secure it as well.

Make sure to perform an exclusion process before the baiting because you don’t want the rat entering the house that already consumed lethal bait. They will end up dying in your house and it will smell if you do not know where the rat is located.
