Soledad Canyon Fosters Freeze Set For Final Weekend Before Closing Its Doors

With the news of its upcoming closure becoming public earlier this week, a number of Santa Clarita residents have announced their support and plans to visit Fosters Freeze, a decades-long Soledad Canyon Road establishment, one last time.

Making the announcement through a single sheet of paper taped to front of their cash register, Fosters Freeze management informed their Santa Clarita customers that they would be closing down their current storefront, located directly adjacent to other longtime local establishments, such as Mountasia and Santa Clarita Lanes.

“It has been a pleasure to serve our customers, and we thank all of you for your continuous support and patronage,” read the note taped to the Fosters Freeze cash register. “We are proud to (have) been part of the Santa Clarita community for the past 20 plus years.”

The letter went on to say, however, that although their lease ends on Oct. 28, the franchise owners did not have any plans to throw in the towel permanently, and that they are currently in the process of searching “for a new location.”

After the news broke that the family restaurant would be closing its doors after approximately 20 years of serving Santa Clarita residents grilled American food and chocolate-dipped ice cream cones, an outpouring of support came from hundreds of customers that Fosters Freeze has served throughout its history.

Some Santa Clarita residents expressed their feelings about the news through social media, sharing with one another their go-to items from the menu, or tagging old friends with a short anecdote reminiscing about “that one time when we were at (Fosters Freeze).”

“Oh no… I love that place,” said Yelsha Relwof, one of the commenters on the initial post breaking the news in the Santa Clarita Community Facebook group. “I’m going to go there tonight. (It’s) so sad when my favorite places disappear.”

And while dozens of Santa Clarita residents joined the procession of those saying that they would make “one last visit,” the franchise owners ended the letter clarifying that although their final day of operation is Sunday, many of their most popular items might not be available throughout the entire weekend.

“As we move closer to the closing date, certain items will become unavailable as we go through our inventory,” said the final line of note. “We do apologize in advance for any inconveniences.”

As of the publication of this story, there were no conclusive reports regarding where Fosters Freeze might be planning to move, nor what business would be replacing them at the Soledad Canyon Road spot.

Fosters Freeze is expected to continue to serve customers throughout the weekend, and is scheduled to be open from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Sunday’s hours are listed as 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
