The California minimum wage is set to increase by $1 on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020, affecting Santa Clarita businesses, officials said.
Santa Clarita follows state minimum wage laws, which are set to go up to $13 an hour for employers with 26 or more employees and $12 for smaller businesses, according to officials.

Since Senate Bill (SB) 3 was signed by former Governor Jerry Brown in 2016, the minimum wage has slowly increased each year, aiming for a total high state minimum wage of $15 an hour by 2023.
From Jan. 1, 2017, to Jan. 1, 2022, the state minimum wage is set to increase for employers with 26 or more employees. This increase is set to be delayed one year for employers with 25 or fewer employees, from Jan. 1, 2018, to Jan. 1, 2023, according to SB 3.
As the City of Santa Clarita follows state minimum wage laws, businesses within City limits would be beholden to this schedule; however, businesses within the unincorporated Los Angeles County, such as Castaic, Stevenson Ranch, Acton and Agua Dulce, would instead follow county minimum wage increases.
The Los Angeles County minimum wage is set to increase to $15 an hour for large employers and to $14.25 an hour for small employers on July 1, 2020, according to County documents.
After that point, beginning July 1, 2022, the minimum wage for all workers in the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County would be increased annually based on the Consumer Price Index, which is currently used by the Social Security Administration to annually adjust benefits paid to Social Security beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income recipients.

… and the price of your Big Mac Combo will increase by $1 in 2020.
That combo was $6 a few years ago and now it goes for $10. Raising the minimum does little to nothing for the lower and middle class because the upper class will get that dollar back somewhere by raising the cost of items. Hurts the middle class the most.
