Certain Train Routes To Be Canceled On Antelope Valley Line Later This Week

Later this week, the Metrolink Antelope Valley line is expected to have certain train routes canceled due to track projects.

The three Antelope Valley routes that are scheduled to be nonoperational on Friday, Aug. 9 are  231, 235 and 238, according to Metrolink officials.

Alternate transportation is expected to be provided for all three canceled trains on Friday, according to Metrolink officials.

One improvement planned for the track project is to add a second set of tracks paralleling existing single tracks.

“The Canyon Siding Extension Project will extend the Saugus siding by adding approximately 8,400 feet of new track between Bouquet Canyon Road and Golden Oak,” Metrolink officials said in a previous KHTS article. “The Project will include a second side-platform at the existing Santa Clarita Metrolink Station with a pedestrian underpass from the parking lot to allow passengers to access the new station platform. The design includes safety improvements at the Golden Oak intersection while providing the first Quiet Zone in the City of Santa Clarita.”

This project is set to improve the 76.6-mile-long Antelope Valley Line, which stretches from Lancaster in the north to L.A. Union Station in the greater metropolitan Los Angeles area.

The Antelope Valley Line has the third-highest ridership in Metrolink’s system with an estimated average of 9,000 passengers daily. However, the uneven terrain and single-tracking along the line in some areas force trains to travel at a slower speed, resulting in an estimated travel time of approximately one hour between Santa Clarita and Union Station.

Safety is Metrolink’s foundation, and the organization is dedicated to ensuring the long-term safety and reliability of the system in the communities it serves, according to Metrolink officials.

“We apologize that these necessary infrastructure enhancements result in the closure of the rail line and the inconvenience it causes our riders. We will continue to look for ways to minimize the impact of these closures as best as possible as we continue this critical work,” said Metrolink officials.

About Carl Goldman

Carl Goldman, along with his wife, Jeri repurchased KHTS AM-1220, Santa Clarita’s hometown station on October 24, 2003. They owned it from 1990-1998, and then sold it to Clear Channel Communication in 1998, buying it back from Clear Channel in 2003. Since then, they have rebuilt KHTS as a critical voice of the Valley. In 2015 the radio station moved to its new headquarters on Main Street in Old Town Newhall, in the original Newhall Hardware building. In 2018 an FM was added, 98.1, with its signal being simulcast with AM-1220. In January 2020, Carl and Jeri cruised on the Diamond Princess. Carl was one of the first Americans to come down with Covid-19. Months earlier he was impacted by Guillain Barre Syndrome as a result of a Shingles vaccine in September 2019. He is still in recovery from the vaccine.
