City Hosts Mayor’s Breakfast Honors National Disability Employment Awareness Month

The City of Santa Clarita hosted its annual Mayor’s Breakfast on Thursday morning to honor National Disability Employment Awareness Month in Valencia.

On Thursday, several members of the SCV business community attended the Mayor’s breakfast where the Mayor’s Committee for Employment of Individuals with Disabilities honored National Disability Employment Awareness Month at College of the Canyons (COC).

“I want to extend my gratitude to the job developers, staffing agency and other service providers represented here today. You are on the frontlines working hard to create new and lasting employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities in Santa Clarita,” said Bill Miranda, Mayor Pro Tem.

Guests had the opportunity to hear from four different speakers who offered a blueprint for filling positions with dedicated, long-term employees proving to be a win-win situation for employers and employees.

The four speakers were Jim Crawford from DrinkPAK, Jeff Gregor of COC, Mac McLeod from Albertsons and Sem Martinez of Classic Wire Cut.

Topics that were discussed during the breakfast were skills-based hiring job descriptions/benefits of hiring people with disabilities, coaching in action, assistance for employers through Supported Employment and Paid Internship: a benefit to employers.

“I am honored to be in this room today with folks that support individuals with what I like to call diversabilities,” said Mac McLeod, director of Albertsons in Saugus.
