City Of Santa Clarita Adopts Resolution To Become A Clean Community

The Santa Clarita City Council adopted a resolution to support ongoing efforts to be designated as a Clean California Community during their regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday evening.

The Clean California Community Designation program, launched by the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans), was created to establish, maintain, and recognize communities that demonstrate a commitment to sustaining a clean and beautiful environment in August 2024.

“Our City has always made it a priority to protect our natural environment and plan for a sustainable future,” said City of Santa Clarita Mayor Cameron Smyth. “Earning a Clean California Community recognition would demonstrate the high level of commitment Santa Clarita has to keeping our City clean and green, benefitting the lives of current and future residents.”

Obtaining the designation requires the City to commit to implementing or maintaining recycling and cleanup programs, some of which include:

  • Local Cleanup Events, such as River Rally, Neighborhood Cleanup Day, Make a Difference Day, and others.
  • Collection Drives for items that are hard to recycle, hazardous, or bulky.
  • Community and Youth Educational programs such as environmental awareness outreach, social media campaigns, as well as school and library activities.
  • Greening and Beautification Projects, such as planting trees or increasing park space.

Community members are encouraged to participate in City-led activities that further enhance sustainability initiatives.

About Carl Goldman

Carl Goldman, along with his wife, Jeri repurchased KHTS AM-1220, Santa Clarita’s hometown station on October 24, 2003. They owned it from 1990-1998, and then sold it to Clear Channel Communication in 1998, buying it back from Clear Channel in 2003. Since then, they have rebuilt KHTS as a critical voice of the Valley. In 2015 the radio station moved to its new headquarters on Main Street in Old Town Newhall, in the original Newhall Hardware building. In 2018 an FM was added, 98.1, with its signal being simulcast with AM-1220. In January 2020, Carl and Jeri cruised on the Diamond Princess. Carl was one of the first Americans to come down with Covid-19. Months earlier he was impacted by Guillain Barre Syndrome as a result of a Shingles vaccine in September 2019. He is still in recovery from the vaccine.
