Deputies Team Up With Santa Clarita Businesses To Prevent Retail Theft

Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Valley Station deputies and detectives make arrests and prevent theft in “Operation Safe Shop” Thursday.

“The (operation) serves a two-fold purpose, creating a safe environment for our residents when they go shopping, and protecting our business partners from being a victim of theft,” said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. “We want to keep everyone safe around here and not fearing being victimized when they go shopping.”

During “Operation Safe Shop,” both uniformed and non-uniformed deputies canvassed the inside of retail stores, according to the official statement.

Two men were arrested on $50,000 warrants and another was arrested on a weapon felony for carrying a concealed firearm. The other arrests included charges for shoplifting, theft, narcotics and trespassing. These arrests were made by undercover personnel after making contact with the individuals in the parking lot, according to officials.

The detectives and deputies inside the retailer communicated with those covering the perimeter in the parking lot, driving both marked and unmarked sheriff’s vehicles.

The Sheriff’s Station plans on executing more of these operations, officials said.
