Girl Scout Troop Raises Over $4,000 For Family Of Santa Clarita Murder Victim

Girl Scout Troop 70842 raised over $4,000 for the children of Santa Clarita murder victim Michelle Dorsey during their fundraiser at Firehouse Subs on Saturday.

Looking for a way to earn their silver award, Santa Clarita Girl Scout Troop 70842 decided to dedicate their project to give back to the Dorsey boys, three boys that they had never even met.

“We did not know the Dorsey family, but we live very close and we heard the helicopters overhead (the day of the incident). It hit very close to home,” Julie Fick, a girl scout leader of the troop, said. “To me and to the girls it was like, ‘what if that was us?’ I can’t even imagine.”

The fundraiser raised over $4,000 which is expected to be allocated into bank accounts and college funds for each of the Dorsey boys as well as funding for an extension of their aunt’s house who needs more room to house her nephews comfortably, according to Fick.

“We are continuing to take donations throughout this week and hoping that we can collect even more for them,” Fick said.

The Dorsey murder came around the same time that girl scout troop 70842 began looking to complete a 50-hour community service project. All of their previous fundraising ideas went out the window when they heard the Dorsey family’s story.

“It was really nice to be able to help the family,” Fick said. “We were looking to ways to positively impact the community and our hearts just went out to them.”

In addition to the Girl Scout fundraiser, the Santa Clarita Disaster Coalition has simultaneously been raising funds to assist the Dorsey family.
