Captain Robert Lewis with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station has been promoted to commander, officials said Thursday.
Lewis has served as captain for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station since April of 2017, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
“We have the highest regard for the work that Captain Lewis has done, and we certainly understand why he is eligible for promotion and we support it,” said Stephanie English, a spokesperson for Kathryn Barger’s office.
Lewis was put on a list of Sheriff’s personnel to be promoted; however, the date of his promotion has not been released yet, said Shirley Miller, a spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
Until the date is announced, he is set to remain the captain for the station.
Who is expected to fulfill Lewis’ position once he becomes commander is still unknown, according to Sheriff’s officials.
When Lewis first became captain in 2017, the City of Santa Clarita was named the third safest city in America among cities with population sizes of 200,000 or more by the National Council for Home Safety and Security.
Crime statistics for 2018 have shown robberies are down 26 percent, burglaries are down more than 16 percent, grand theft autos are down 30 percent and assaults are down nearly 25 percent, according to officials.
“We also heavily depend on the community to be our eyes and ears and report any suspicious behavior. This partnership has played a major role in our effectiveness,” Lewis said in a previous KHTS article.
