Saugus High Shooting Survivor Shares Story, Thanks ‘Saugus Strong’ Community

A Saugus High shooting survivor shared her story and thanked the “Saugus Strong” community in a video Monday, days after the tragedy.

Addison Koegle, a freshman at Saugus High School, was best friends with 15-year-old Gracie Muehlberger, who was killed in the shooting.

“I wanted to let everyone know that I am doing well and I am at home with my family. I would like to thank the students, teachers and staff, and the first responders who literally saved my life on Thursday,” Addison said in a video. “I also want to thank the amazing doctors and nurses and the staff of Providence Holy Cross. You guys rock.”

Addison also thanked her friends and family and the Saugus Strong community.

“I really appreciate all of the love and support. I am so thankful for each and every one of you. I wish I could be there tonight, but I’m just not quite ready. But I wanted to tell you all a few things about my best friend,” Addison said.

Addison recalled her longtime friendship with Gracie, and a newfound friendship with Dominic Blackwell, the other victim who died in the shooting.

“I have known Gracie Ann Muehlberger for six amazing years, and I know pretty much everything about her. I’ve only known Dom since about September, but it’s felt like a lifetime because we became such fast friends.”

She spoke about the lives of the friends lost that day, and the memories that will live on forever.

“Gracie was silly, kind, smart, loving, caring and beautiful, on the inside and out. I have more memories with Gracie than I honestly do with anyone. All of the dances we made up, the performances we did,” Addison said. “Gracie was my childhood. She taught me what real love was, and that if I wanted something so badly, I could do anything and everything to achieve it.”

“Gracie had the biggest heart you could ever imagine. She could read me like a book. She would make sure I was okay, and if I needed anything, she could get it for me as soon as possible.”

“I spent so much time with Gracie, I practically lived at her house. I personally considered Mr. and Mrs. Muehlberger to be my second set of parents, and they are so amazing and so great to me and I am so beyond grateful to them.”

Addison added Gracie was one of the best people she knew.

“She changed my life for the better,” Addison said. “I love her so much, and she was the best six years of my life.”

The Saugus shooting survivor also spoke about her memories with Dominic, who she noted had a “loving spirit.”

“Dominic and I have known each other for a couple of months; however, we grew very close very fast. Dom had a great soul, a kind heart, a loving spirit and so much more,” Addison said. “He could put a smile on anyone’s face with just his silly looks, and he could make my day within a second.”

Addison promised all of the supporters from the community she will make “something amazing out of this horrible situation. Gracie would have wanted me to.”

“We’ve got this,” Addison said. “Saugus Strong.”

  1. Addison, YOU are an AMAZING person! I have no doubt you will make something positive out of this tragedy. At the same time, don’t forget it is OK to grieve your loss of two fantastic friends. Keep talking, sharing, encouraging others. You all have counselors & teachers who support all students, so talk to them if you need to…keep talking & feeling.
“Nothing you love is lost, NOT really. Things, people —they always go away, sooner or later. You can’t hold them, any more than you can hold the moonlight. But if they’ve touched you, if they’re inside you, then they’re still yours. The only things you ever really have are the ones you hold inside your heart.” Jeremy Thatcher Dragon Hatcher.
As you hold Gracie & Dom in your heart, continue to spread their love & positiveness you hold so dearly. Saugus Strong, we all continue to pray for you!
