L.A. County COVID-19 Vaccines Appointments To Be Separated By Age, Work Sector

Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH) officials announced that COVID-19 vaccine appointments would only be available to eligible persons on specific days next week, separated by work sector and age bracket.

On Friday, Dr. Paul Simon, Health Science Officer with the LADPH announced that a large increase in the number of COVID-19 vaccines had been delivered to L.A. County for next week, most of which were allocated to be distributed to eligible persons on specific days in the coming week.

  • Food and Agriculture — Monday, Tuesday and Thursday
  • 65 and Older — Wednesday and Friday
  • Education and Childcare — Saturday
  • Independent Schools — Sunday
  • Emergency Services — Wednesday

“We are so close. I urge everyone to continue to stay disciplined,” Simon said. “Wearing face masks and physically distancing is recommended (…) remember we are all in this together.”

To date, more than 2,415,000 doses of vaccine have been administered across the county. Of those vaccinated, 814,593 people have received second doses. This is an increase of 456,913 administered doses reported over the past week which averages to 65,273 doses administered per day, according to health officials.

Next week we are expecting to receive 312,000 vaccine doses, the largest weekly shipment received to date. This allocation will include 53,700 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

“With the Johnson & Johnson vaccine only requiring one dose, this should accelerate the speed and increase vaccination coverage across Los Angeles County as allotments increase,” read an official statement Friday.

An additional 2,253 COVID-19 cases were reported in Los Angeles County on Friday, along with 144 deaths.

This brings the county’s cumulative total to 1,200,120 positive cases of COVID-19 and 21,910 deaths since the onset of the pandemic, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH).

Testing results are available for over 5,876,000 people, with a cumulative 19 percent of people testing positive.

The Southern California Region has 25.3% staffed adult ICU capacity remaining as of the state’s last update on Tuesday, March 2, according to state health officials.

Residents are encouraged to continue to prevent the spread of COVID-19, to not gather in crowds, stay home when sick, wear a face covering and maintain physical distance from others when outside of the home.

A travel advisory remains in effect for L.A. County. Anyone who is arriving in Los Angeles County must self-quarantine for 10 days. Residents are asked to remain at home or lodging for 10 days and avoid contact with others.
