A 5 Freeway pursuit ended in Valencia early Monday morning, with the suspect being taken into custody at gunpoint, officials said.
At around 2:11 a.m. Monday, the Rialto Police Department initiated a pursuit of a suspected stolen vehicle, Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area Office.
The CHP Newhall Office took over the pursuit when the suspect entered the 5 Freeway near Roxford Street, Greengard said.
Officers attempted a spike strip at the 5 Freeway scales, but the suspect fled around the strips, according to officials.
Shortly after, the suspect exited at Newhall Ranch Road, where he surrendered to law enforcement, according to Greengard.
“We pursued the stolen 2012 gray Honda Civic until the northbound 5 at the SR-126, at which point the vehicle ran out of gas and the solo occupant driver was taken into custody,” Greengard said.
The speed of the pursuit reached speeds upwards of 80-90 miles per hour, according to the spokesperson.
Robert Aguilar, of Rialto, was arrested and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station for grand theft auto and driving under the influence.
