70 Percent Of Weekend Arrests In Santa Clarita Drugs And Alcohol-Related

70 percent of arrests made in Santa Clarita over the weekend were drugs or alcohol-related, officials said.

Between Saturday, June 5 and Sunday, June 7, deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and California Highway Patrol officers made 30 arrests, according to weekend booking logs.

Of those 30 arrests, 21 were drugs or alcohol-related, including six instances of driving under the influence and ten arrests on charges of substance possession.

Four domestic arrests were made over the weekend, which include battery against a living partner or former spouse. Each charge has a bail set, the lowest being $20,000 and the highest being $70,000.

Additionally, 18 of the 30 arrests were of individuals residing outside of the Santa Clarita Valley.

Around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, deputies arrested two in Gorman after conducting a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle.

“Deputies patrolling on Frazier Mountain Park Road observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed,” wrote Shirley Miller, spokesperson for Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. “After a traffic stop was conducted, deputies made contact with two adult males.”

During the traffic stop, it was found that the adult male passenger was on probation for robbery. Following a field investigation, he was found to be in possession of fentanyl, heroin and narcotics paraphernalia, according to Miller.

“The male adult driver was found to be in possession of fentanyl, narcotics paraphernalia, and was additionally charged with carrying a concealed weapon, after deputies found a firearm in the vehicle,” Miller wrote.

The two males, both in their 20’s, from Frazier Park, were transported and booked at Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
